A much better showing this month with the Marlin 80DL and open iron sights. I changed from the stock sight on this vintage rifle to the Williams 1/4" "U" style sight, as well as going with the Eley Sport instead of the Fed.#745 like I used last month. What a difference. From 208 points in August to 230 points in September. Now this one I'll post a picture of.

Notes: 1/8th inch above the small dot killed stage 4 (first time hitting high all day. wondering if I pushed it), and just uder the hostage eye on 5.

Over all very happy with my new rem 40x (I got the USMC marked barrel action and finally got it stocked up). was planning on cutting the barrel down, now may leave it alone since it shoots so well.

I seem to like this 82G just a little bit more every time I shoot it. This is actually only the second time that I have shot this rimfire comp with this rifle because it seems that every time that I manage to get this rifle out, that it ends up just being a plinking session with the friends and family. Today though I was able to get to the range and enjoy some time with nobody else around.

If it hadn't been for dropping that round on the offhand this would have been a nice target.

This was my first real attempt at the 50 yard 4p. Not as easy as it looks either. I did change aperture size though. I had been using the one that happened to be in the front globe when I got the rifle (a 3.4), but today I went down to a 2.4. It made a big difference too. Still need much practice to get there, but it'll happen.

50 yard TRC P (Support Side)

Name: D_TROS
Rifle: USMC Marked Rem 40X
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: SK Rifle Match
Sights: zeiss 4-14
Rest: pack front + rear bag
Match: TRC 50 Yard P SS

Stage 1: 0/25
Stage 2: 40/50
Stage 3: 10/50
Stage 4: 35/65
Stage 5: 40/60

Total score: 125/250

Notes: This is the first time I have ever shot off my weak side (SS) for precision/accuracy. Very awkward at first. After missing my cold bore shot, inch high and left, I had to switch back to normal and shoot it normal just to make sure my zero was not off. I center punched it, so the rifle was good. Knowing I was naturally shooting high and left, I was able to pull it together somewhat during S2. S3, I was back to high and left with a couple of the shots. Got it figured out finally for S4 and S5. I def need more practice doing this. Was pretty fun.

Also, Really tough shooting off my small day pack with pretty much sweater and water bottles in it. Practice will improve that I spose.

DT

Re: SEPT. 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Been lurking for a long time. Time to get in the game. Here we go!

50Y TRC P

NAME: DCR
RIFLE: Rugger 10/22, Green Mountain Barrel, KIDD Trigger
CALIBER: .22 LR
AMMO: Wolf Match Target
SIGHTS: Tasco 6-24 MillDot
REST: Harris 6-9" Bipod, Rear Bag

STAGE 1: 0
STAGE 2: 35
STAGE 3: 10
STAGE 4: 15
STAGE 5: 40

TOTAL SCORE MINUS PENALTIES: 100

NOTE ANY PENALTIES:

Cold bore shot wasn't really cold bore. I had to sight the gun in today. I took a break for 10-20 minutes. I din't notice any movement of the sights or pulling the shot. Most likely me though.

Box 17 was thrown down into the 3 box. Again not sure if it was me or typical 10/22 flyier.

Definitely going to try the 4P next month!

Re: SEPT. 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

I finally got into shooting the match. I shot also 100y match during the same range trip, would post is shortly.

Since I'm shooting at 50 meters instead of yards, I took the liberty to scale the target. After printing, I verified the correct dimensions by measuring.

In my target, the 1" circle is 28 millimeters. I had to split the target in two, since the A4 paper size can't accommodate the scaled up target.

Here's the gun, it's an old bolt action biathlon rifle. I've threaded it 1/2-28" and it's wearing AR-15 suppressor (BR Tuote from Finland).

Re: SEPT. 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Name: Aquatic_Robotic AKA "Aquabot"
Class: Scope
Rifle: Anschutz 64 MPR
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Wolf MT
Match: 50 YD P TRC
Score: 250/250

I have been shooting mostly 200 and 300 yards for the last month, but noticed some things I needed to work on. I need to slow down when shooting a COF and concentrate with each shot.

I decided to move back to 50 yards and really slow down for a few rounds. It helped my concentration and I can see each bullet at impact. This is very helpful in seeing how subtle inconsistancies in my routine can change POI.

Stage 3 was a perfect example of losing concentration and it almost costing me the clean. The first 3 shots were in one hole and I was "going to town". Then I just let # 4 go without really thinking about it and it just barely cut the line. # 5 was a little better as I saw my mistake. This made me really bear down on stages 4 and 5 and they felt excellent with excellent results.

Good shooting to all and glad to finally get a break in the HOT TEXAS weather.
