'Sesame Street' composer arrested on child porn

Not everything is A-OK on “Sesame Street.”

An award winning-composer, who wrote music for the PBS’ long-running children’s series, “Sesame Street,” was arraigned on charges of coercing a child “to engage in sexually explicit conduct” in South Carolina on Nov. 21, the New York Daily News reports.

Fernando Rivas was arrested on April 19 after police discovered photographs of a 4-year-old girl naked and “restrained in handcuffs and other bondage-type devices.”

Rivas admitted to handcuffing the child, taking the photos and emailing them to two other individuals.

The Juliard-trained composer pleaded not guilty to the charges, which also included production and distribution of child pornography and is currently under house arrest.

Rivas won a Grammy award for Best Children’s Album in 1998 for his work on “Elmopalooza,” and also wrote the music for Disney’s “Handy Manny.”

The Cuban-born musician taught music to high school students in Charleson, SC in the early ‘00s. “We are unaware of any connection between the charges against him and Porter-Guad, but we are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation,” the school said in a statement.

The culture at PBS is saturated with people who feel that the revulsion we feel at stories like this is further proof of our backwardness.

They are so much more forward thinking than the rest of us.

If not PBS then who? Oh, I don't know...Perhaps, Discovery, TLC, History Channel, The Military Channel, DIY, and on and on.

PBS needs to be cut from the federal tit. So too NPR.

wtf? yes, that will save the economy.(sarcasm) why do people have such a hard on for npr? its kind of nice to have a news source that doesnt have an agenda. if you think that npr has an agenda, then you should try actually listening to it. Too busy listening to poison spewing mouthpieces for that? Are you actually claiming that they are all a bunch of child molesters and the like? You actually believe this?

No, I'm not claiming they are all a bunch of child molesters. As to poison spew, entirely too much damage has been done to this planet by soothing voices, calmly reassuring the easily beguiled, with banal repetition of the same shopworn, left wing, saccharin.

Let them sink or swim with no taxpayer funding.
