I have a vortex Viper PST Gen 2 3-15x44 that I am pulling of my AR10 to put on an NRL22 rifle I just bought. I am doing this because I already own the scope, it parallaxs for 20 yards and the glass is good. The reticle is the EBR 2C (.5 hashes).

I like the scope but it isn't without it's shortcomings. Setting the zero stop being the single biggest for two reasons, (1) it's not as easy as a NF or Leupold, and (2) it doesn't support any dial under.

On my AR10 has not been a huge problem, however on the .22lr I want to be able to dial a few 1/10s down from zero for the stages that are closer than the zero distance. Does anyone know how to set up the zero stops to allow for up to .5mils dial under?

I have watched multiple videos on how to set the zero stop but none cover this.

If this has already been covered I apologize. However a search of this forum did not yield anything for me.

Thank you

MM

I am not familiar with your scope at all and hopefully others with specific knowledge will chime in soon.

However, is it possible for you to establish your zero, dial down an additional X number of extra clicks, and then set your zero stop. This should effectively give you a zero stop X clicks below your actual zero.

You could then spin the turrets until they bottom out and then click up X clicks to get to true zero. Better yet, if you can disengage and spin or reset the turret, set it so the turret’s actual zero mark is X clicks above the bottom stop.

Yes, however most people zero at 50 with closest shots being at 25. Zero works best at 35, by my calculation but my range doesn't have that. And it's nice to be at the standard so when you verify zero in the morning there's no dialing or screwing around...

Thank you for the insight. I was planning to do something like this. It was frustrating setting the zero stop last time so wanted to see if others had first hand knowledge on how to most effectively do this.

You can do it relatively easy, but you will make it difficult to get a perfect zero as they turret is designed to allow for, not a big issue IMO.

Just go through the normal zeroing process and once zeroed move the turret down how many clicks you want, then lock the zerostop.
Put the turret "cap" back on lined up with the click value you have set under.

@beetroot is almost correct.
all you need to do is run the elevation turret down until you hit your zerostop. Next dial up the amount you want under your zero (.5mil for ex. ). Next take off the turret cap and zero the rifle. After its zeroed, put the turret cap back on at “0”. Now you are zeroed with .5 under.

No sir. You do not zero first

Dial down to zerostop
Dial up .5 mil (this adds the extra "clicks" that will go below zero)
Take off turret cap
Zero rifle using inside turret
Put turret cap on zero

You are good to go with .5 under

It took me a few times to read this and re-read the owner's manual before I understood what you were explaining.
