Setting up a Rem 700 .338 Lapua.......

I just got one of the Remington Police model 700's in .338 Lapua.
My goal with this rifle is to hit a 24" gong at 1 mile. I have a .308 I shoot a lot out to 700-800yds and a .300 SAUM that I shoot out to 1200. The .338 Lapua will be the BIG DADDY
Setting it up will be next winter's project.
I'm looking for ideas....

Right now I'm planning to send it to Shawn at Defensive Edge for a tuneup and one of his muzzle brakes. Eventually, I'll have Shawn rebarrel it, but I'm to cheap to scap a new barrel!

To use Seekins 30 moa base and rings and mount a Nightforce 3.5 X 15 or 5.5 X 22

The rifle has a 1 in 11" twist barrel, was hoping to try 300 SMK's, 300 Berger hybrids, and 250 SMK's in it over H-1000. I want to find one load that will work out to 1 mile and stick with it.

Well, if you are shooting a mile, a 3-15x is not the most ideal platform. I would at least go with the the 5.5-22 or a 5-25 of some sort.

I'm just starting down the 338LM path as well. I don't have a place to shoot 1 mile, so a 3-15 with the 245-265 grain bullets will work just fine for me.

The 300 SMK are not needed to shoot +1K yards, I have had my TRG to 1200 with the 250 Scenars (SP) are it did well, Also, it seems like that the 338 loads that worked the best for we were with RL25, you might want to look into it.

I took my cleaning rod, marked it and one revolution was 11" down the rod.
I'd also heard these rifles had a 10" twist.

Did you get it new? If so, Rem usually marks the twist on the box.

Yeah, I got it new. The box is in the attic of my shop, I'll check it out next time I'm up there.
