Sex and MKII action?

What have you guys done to smooth out the bolts action with these? I wanted to ask the experts before I started rubbing lapping compound. So here are a few questions.

-Which areas would be most beneficial in smoothing this out?
-What lapping compound should I use?
-Why does this .22 get me so excited?
-Sex with Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears? You have to choose one, no other choices are allowed.

There use to be a great article/how to over on rimfirecentral. I used their procedure when doing my wife's.
basically, disassemble the bolt and trigger group and knock off all the "rough" high spots from the stamping. A little work with a wet stone and a bit of FINE lapping compound and you will be good to go.

MTETM: I looked over at rimfirecentral but came up short after going through all of the threads in the savage area.

Maybe I need to become a member to get access to the full site. There must be something that I am not fully seeing.

S-S I haven't made up my mind yet. I am waiting on convincing arguments either way.

Dont have an answer for you on the first two, but here are mine for 3 and 4
3. .22's are the most fun you can have with your clothes on

4. Britney Spears, IMHO she's the least crazy and better lookin of the two.

Hello,

Put a lighter trigger return spring in it. Savage will not sell a non-gunsmith that one, but if you know a gunsmith who will order one, no reason to chop at your current spring.

Take a 900 grit stone to the sear faces, but only if they need it. Mine was iffy about needing it. Just depends on when it was made.

Josh, my trigger feels pretty good right now, and I was already planning on adding a lighter spring to it. I am wondering about the actual movement of the bolt in the action. It feels really ruff and almost forced at times. I do understand that this is a two hundred dollar gun and that it will never be like a custom built rifle. I just figured that there was something I could do to smooth it out.

Also, does anyone know what the type of metal the magazine release is made out of? I planned on making some sort of extension for it.

OH, OK - I misunderstood the question.

Oil the bolt body well and take 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper over it in small circles, changing the paper area often as it will get gunked up.

The bolt should smooth out pretty quickly.

First get some JB Bore Paste, and mix a small amount of this with some CLP or FP-10. Make a "slurry" that droops off a chopstick, without dripping. Slather this everywhere where metal touches metal, and work your bolt 100 times, stopping once in a while to re-slather. Repeat if necessary.

Before and after shots.

The rifle is a heavily modified Ruger 77(17 HMR) that I built for one of my kid's.
And I can shoot dime's at 100 yards with ease. That is with no wind of course.
The other Ruger 77 in the first picture, is my other build for my other kid. They will look like twin's except for the color of stock and the caliber (22 WM).

Hello, LW

That is the ACE hardware.
But be prepared, because it's a PITA to get everything right on this type of installation.
The stock is thin and hard to work with, And you only get one shot at it.

Mine was a little rough at first. But after the first box of shells through it is pretty smooth. It is amazing how fast a box of 5,000 rounds disappears through a .22
