Several years ago we had a thread on shaving. at that time I was switching from electric to a regular type razor, got lots of good ideas. I always found that shave cream ldrt my face a tad dry. I just discovered a new product, Alba Botanica Very Emollient Shave Cerme. Comes in three types, Mango, Lime, and one other. I prefer the Mango. It leaves your face feeling smoothe as a baby's ass. You can find it at most any good Grocery or ask thme to order it. Runs about $7 a tube which will out last a couple of cans of the other. Be careful and dont waste it, A little blob about the size of a marble works for me.

If youve got any good suggestions or new products share them here.

I use a safety razor and brush and cream. It is a little more time consuming than the multi blade mass market stuff but when you're done, your face feels super smooth.

I use the Art of Shaving creams and yes they are a little pricey but really work well and last a long time. The cost isn't too bad considering how long one tub will last. Safety razor blades are cheap as well compared to the mass market stuff so I replace blades more frequently which adds to the effectiveness.

It took me a while but I finally figured out changing blades more often equals less nicks (pun intendd) LOL.

I use a Hart Straight Razor. One of my personal favorites-American made-holds a great edge. I have a few others, but come back to this often. I use the Hart Straight Razor with shaving cream from Bath and Body (CO Bigelow). The added benefit, maintaining an edge that provides a smooth shave will really teach you how to keep an edge on a regular knife.

I just grew a beard because shaving is bullshit.

However, on the rare occasion that I do shave, which I do about once a year to make sure big C is still handsome as fuck, I use a Feather AS-D2 safety razor with a boars hair brush and solid soap.

I use Japanese Feather blades witch are sharp as fuck, but coupled with the AS-D2 which is a super smooth shave, it. It shaves really smoothly and comfortably

    I haven't shaved since 1971.
I have saved a lot not buying all of the above mentioned items and my face feels just fine. Saved a lot of time also as well as won quite a few beard contests that have put a few shekels in my pocket for guns and ammo.
The only problem I have had is when I wax up my mustache then the Old Lady bitches about it putting snags in her nylons. FM

I'm interested in straight razors for shaving. I shaved a year long beard and my 3 year old daughter went nuts about how I looked so "neat" now and how she likes me without a beard so I'm going to try to stay clean faced this summer. Any straight razor tips? I guess I'll need to go do some googling of it. The Harry's razors I got aren't anything special and I think I'd rather just use cheap plastic single blade razors......

Got into "artisan wet shaving" a few years back, and will probably never go back to the crap in a can or cartridge razors.

I have a few double edge razors I switch between (nothing fancy, just basic, non-adjustable razors), and enjoy a wide variety of "software" from various artisans. My favorites include Barrister&Mann, Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, Shannon's Soaps, and a slew of others.

It's a deep hole with as much variety (if not more) than we now enjoy with various manufacturers of actions, stocks, optics, etc. But I get much better shaves now and can smell like whatever I want (or like nothing at all), more or less.

If you guys are really interested in a better shave. Hop over to badger&blade.

I use a safety razor with Castile Forbes creams. A 100 pack of feathers is only 30 bucks I think. Tons cheaper and a better shave over a cartridge.

    Going old school rocks.

I use the same razor and blades...they are awesome

Where would you recommend I start? A quality straight razor and my typical Barbasol?

I would get a quality brush and cream...there are many places mentioned in this thread.
I would get a safety razor versus a straight razor. Straight razors are not easy to use. Safety razors offer a little more protection. If you don't know the difference, I would read about them. I would also advise getting a styptic pencil. You will cut yourself...just get over that part. Here are some articles

I stopped buying razors years ago and use Buselhalter-6's leg razor in the shower. I don't know what it is. No clue. But they are always pink... they have this huge stack of blades and slide over my face like running on greased rails. Smooth shave... And, well, free!

Whatever they sell those broads... damn they work great on face whiskers.

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

When I used to shave, I just did the standard multi blade safety razor and used water, worked fine.
But a beard is better, just you know, so people have an easier time assuming your gender.

I have a solution to that issue as well.. don't trim, color or shape your beard, leave it looking like you crawled out of the woods helps to avoid people thinking you are a lumbersexual especially if you tend to wear somewhat sturdy clothes for work.
