I have used several Shilen's. Only their Select Match Grade.
They have always been competitively priced with some of the other manufacturers, but always 10-20 less than most.
They build a good product, and I have never had any problems.
Shilen's are button rifled.

Shilen barrels are shit, pure shit. Feel free to send me all your shitty Shilen barrels for proper disposal.
Back in the day, M40A1s wore Shilen barrels.
I've owned a few rifles with match Shilen barrels, they make a good product.
It can take awhile to get them, but generally worth the wait.

I have a Shilen select match in 6.5 creedmoor. It makes 5 shot groups you can cover with a dime all day long!

Put one of their savage drop ins onto a model 12 a while back.
260 rem, 26 inch "varmint" contour. Went together well, and shoots great. AND it was in stock, so no wait.
I will buy another when I need it for sure.

Acutally some M40A1's were built with Douglas barrels(along with HS Precision, Atkinson, Hart, Schneider also had contracts during the 25 yr stint of the M40A1) but not Shilen. Not aware that Shilen has EVER won a military contract.
Never can get the velocity from a Shilen, had better luck with accuracy and velocity with Douglas if I decided to use a cheaper tube. Shilen's Select Match blanks aren't any cheaper to speak of then Hart, Krieger, Bartlein, Rock etc. Their Chrome Moly is around $200 now and stainless $250ish and Select Match over $300, depending of course on where you buy and whether or not you are a dealer/smith etc. Last Shilen stainless I did in 6mm was a fight to get 3500fps without pressure from a 26" tube and a 70BT. Didn't average under moa either! Did a 6XC on a Douglas 26" that would push a 70TNT to 3480fps and shot well. Have a CM blank I am going to do a 22/6AI on for giggles and if it is slow and inconsistent accuracy it will be the last Shilen I ever buy!

From everything I know and have heard Remington used their own barrels for the M40's as they were 100% Remington produced. If the M40's ever had anything other than Remington produced barrels my money would bet they were Hart's as Remington used Hart barrels on some of their 40-XB's in the late 60's and early 70's. These were stamped C.R and P.J. Hart if my old memory hasn't failed. Had a 222mag for a while and remember it being stamped under woodline something similar to this, I know the Hart is right, just not sure on initials. Later as the M40's wore out the Corp Armorers rebuilt those recievers into M40A1's and contracted for barrel blanks of which Douglas, Hart, HS Precision, a few Atkinson were awarded contracts and Schneider probably selling the most to them then and now. They also purchased 100 C prefix in mid 80's and in the 90's some E and G to build rigs on. Have never heard, read or otherwise that Shilen has ever produced anything for the military but I could be wrong????

My last barrel was a Shilen SS match select chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. It was a very accurate barrel and lasted 3,100 rounds before it started bleeding velocity. I believe the barrel was in the $300 range.

I have three Shilen barrels and one on the way. So far, the three have been tack-drivers. The 28" on my 6.5-284 chronos coated Berger 140s to 2950 fps with a mild 51.5 gr R22. Seems like a good velocity from that load, especially considering the moly-coated bullets.

I currently have 3 rifles built with SS select match Shilens on 700 actions. They ALL shoot.
