Shilen or Pac-Nor???

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

i think its like john wayne used to say. i'd hate to have to live on the difference. but if it helps, jim at northland has shilen select match SS in stock usually... as well as mcgowen. look on savageshooters.com and sin arms is a vendor. i think he is a vendor here too now. he has his own "house" brand as well as a few top names too in stock

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

If you go shilen get the select match. They have a lot of bench rest experience and they are made in Texas. Love all of mine. Dont know about pac-nor.

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

I have had two Pac nors, one on a savage (300win, 30 inch )
Shot great.

The other was a Remington rem nut(savage type barrel nut for a remington,223 1 in 7 stainless) It also shoots great and was very simple to install and looks great as well.

I would definately reccomend Pac Nor based on my experience.

Any twist they make. If it is a twist/caliber they produce, they will make a prefit.

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

Thanks for all the advice! I was leaning toward the Shilen to begin with, but will definately go with the select match, considering it doesn't even add that much cost into the equation. Anyone know if the dealer will thread the muzzle for a brake? I have a Holland brake I want to install.

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

Im not trying to say any thing bad about the shilen product , but I have a friend that has had 2 shilen prefit barrels and problems with both. The first was a 300wm and it would not chamber fl resized brass. After measureing we found it was only rough chambered and not finnished reamed. The second was a .223 that the chamber was too large , he sent it back to just be rechambered in 22-250 (this was the easiest fix). So my only advice is to pay very close attention to the new barrel and chamber when you get it. GOOD LUCK

I should note after the problems were repaired both shot very good , so as far as the barrels go they were good.

Re: Shilen or Pac-Nor???

I don't have any experience with Shilen, but I do have a Pac Nor barrel on my newest Savage project. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed either way, but from personal experience, I do love the Pac Nor. Very accurate, very well made, reasonably priced, great service, but a slow delivery time. Good luck.
