Gunsmithing Shilen Ratchet rifled 4 groove barrels

Re: Shilen Ratchet rifled 4 groove barrels

I have a Select Match ratchet-rifled barrel on an 8 twist .223AI, and it is a freaking hammer!

It cleans super-easily, but I can't say it's much, if any better in this regard to any of my other custom barrels. The bore finish is the best I have seen though.

I was told by Shilen that the rifling profile engraves the bullet differently than conventional land and groove which enhances long range ballistics.

Other than that, not much additional info to pass along, but without question, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I have a Select Match .243 1:8 ratchet barrel and it shoots really tight. Cleans really easy. I never had a Shilen ratchet or 6 groove that didn't group.

Re: Shilen Ratchet rifled 4 groove barrels

I have a ar-15 build with a shilen match 204 barrel that shoots factory hornady 32s and 40s good enough to hit paint cans at 350 at least 3 out of 4 shots. It is not a ratchet barrel but seems to be very accurate and cleans very easy. I guess you could say my experience with shilen has been great. Rthur
