Gunsmithing Shillen,drop in Savage barrels,,

are they any good at all or waste of time and money,,I have the 110FCP-HS 338 LM and like the outfit but I think I would like a heavier contour without the flutes,,finished at 24 inches and threaded for the factory Savage brake.
in the Match Select Stainless

I wish they chambered for the 338 Norma,,or somebody made good 338 RUM brass,,330 Dakota looks good also,,I would like to be able to load the 300 gr bullets with the bottom of the bullet seated out long enough to stay out in front of the shoulder/neck junction and still fit mag length and the bullet be within .010 of the lands,

I may just sell the whole rig I have and start with an action that wil handle 4 inch loaded ammo..

A buddy and I just installed a 223 Remington shilen stainless match and wow is it a shooter. Before the barrel swaP it was .75 Moa easily so he was a little hesitant on swapping the barrel. Now it is under .5 Moa. It is literally a 1 hole gun 10 shot group. I'd say go for it, after seeing that gun in action my next barrel will be a shilen.

I've installed 3 Shilen Slect Match bbl's,same results as you !!!

Good barrels,but chances are,the prefits arent going to be throated to the depth you want.

I agree with Ballistic64, the throat was WAY shorter than the factory Savage barrel. But with accuracy like we are getting, who cares.

I am very happy with my select match barrel...for the money it's tough to beat.

shillen has probably won more championships that most other barrel makers.
