Sometimes you just never know.
I shipped a 40kw diesel generator using UPS Freight.
The truck got in an accident, so the delivery was delayed.
The customer refused the delivery, so it came back.
The unit was severely damaged was the reason.
UPS originally said wasn’t packaged well enough, and denied my claim of damage.
We ship on a pallet, and box with 3/8 plywood and 2x4s......
I bitched enough that they finally sent a representative to my shop.
There was asphalt and plywood imbedded in the valve cover and the radiator was wrapped around the front of the engine. Also full of wood splinters and small rocks. The oil filter was smashed - folded over sideways. The control box was missing, and the generator can had every corner ground or smashed off.
Evidently when the truck rolls over at 60 or 70 mph - bad stuff happens to the contents. Whatever was in the vicinity of this generator as it catapulted through the side of the truck was surely damaged also! There is no amount of packaging that was going to protect 1500# worth of steel from finding a resting point once ejected from the truck.
UPS paid the claim.
