SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

If you are running 175smk's you may want to invest in one of these.

http://www.actsvirginia.com/sliderule.php

I got one and it has been with in +/- .5 moa if not spot on. Works well with 168 grain berger vld's too as the bc is a near perfect match to the 175smk.

But to answer your question 36-40 moa at 1k depending on weather and your location for 2650fps

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

You can run your velocity through JBM ballistics, but gonna take about 42 MOA to 1K at sea level. Mileage may vary with DA.

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

The answer to your question is roughly 30moa. It will vary and for that length of barrel maybe 33moa but that will get you close.

It's no where near 30 MOA. You will be dumping rounds in the dirt. From JBM:

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

Since reading this thread, I have learned that the OP will need between 30 & 39.7 MOA to get to 1000. That's a POI variance of about 8 feet.

Hope the he brings a large target...

Shooter308,

Please report back with real world results. It will make for an interesting comparison.

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

Having used and trusted JBM for years and also shooting almost that same load, 2700fps 178 AMAX took 35.5 MOA, to 1000 I am betting that the 36.5 MOA will get him very close if his scope tracks correctly.

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

I'm a dedicated JBM user too. Just thought the variance in suggestions was worth noting. Also worth noting is that you successfully competed last weekend. I assume you did so using verified data from JBM.

Let's have a round of applause for the Oregon Snipers Challenge "Top Long Range Shoooooteerrr!!"

Sorry Rob01, still no prize for it though

I guess I have to practice more pistol for sniper matches

Got to talk to Steve about that for next year.

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

Spent some time shooting last night. This thread got me thinking about making elevation adjustments and why we get varied results. Rob01 uses <span style="text-decoration: underline">[/u] verified</span> JBM information. I believe verified is the key. I've used the same Nightforce for years, believing that it was totally reliable, just because it was a Nightforce. Pictured is a target we shot last night. The string of holes on the right is mine. The horizontal lines are exactly 2 MOA apart. At 100 yards (where the target was placed), my POI is 1.5 MOA high. I dialed up 2 MOA, on my scope, between every round.

Scope%2BChecking%2B6%253A16%253A11.jpg

The lesson I learned is that real world verification is absolutely critical. I can't help but wonder how many of us build a chart based on our known FPS and think we are GTG, when we are not.

Any one else experience similar results?
-Chris

That is why I added that caveat at the end of my post. New scopes should always be tested to check tracking no matter the maker. I check every scope I get even my S&Bs.

Good info. Hopefully it will open some eyes.

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

just to throw it in there , using a fdac with the 2650 card, and with a temp of 80f and an altitude of below 1000ft you get a DA of 1500 on the estimation table. fdac says you should be about 37 moa in the +1k window and 36.3 moa in the +2k window so half way between both would give you about 36.7moa which is pretty much what Rob01 said with jbm.

just an edit to add that i use the meters model fdac, and with 1000 yards being 914 meters i read from the 900m window. i have found the fdac accurate to .2mil or so out to 1000m with my 308

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

it takes me 37.5 moa
and my buddy 35.5 moa with the same gun
go figure

It actually toped out at 42 but that is pretty funny.

Must be nice to be the kind of person who increases the BC of a given bullet by just being themselves...

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

I was running right at 38MOA with the 175's. I recently cut my barrel down from 26" to 18" so everything will be different now although it really won't matter as I will not shoot 1k with the 18" barrel....Decided to take that gun subsonic.

Where the shit did you get that info???

Re: SHooting 2600 FPS with a 308 how many MOA to 1k

I shoot 175gr SMK @ 2650fps. Calculations @ sealevel, come out to be 39.9 moa at 50F & 38.4 moa at 90F.

Where do you shoot in B'ham, i used to live there.
