Why? Isn't their laws against murder and arson there? Doesn't seem the laws against those things had much effect either.

Why you really need to ask why governments all over the world strive to take away peoples weapons? Luckily you have 2nd Am. and good weapon culture/numbers here in Europe while we did have great tradition of weapon use (both world wars and several other conflicts - we even invited overseas friends to a party) we apparently managed to kill all the quality men and whats left is a shitty pool of sheep waiting to be sheared. And funny thing is (at least so appears) the more they are sheared the merrier they are...sad...really...
Seriously though i'm rather pissed by comments in German press and if it happens in Germany (almost happened last time when there was a shooting) i'm sure entire EU legislation will be raped...
