So I've been researching this and consensus seems to be that Remington never made a Sendero in a short action. Came across a steal of a deal on this for a project gun. New in box, made in 2003. Guess that shows the demand for the 7SAUM. I'll get some good parts for my 6.5SAUM build. I guess they did make a short action that they officially called a Sendero.

DO NOT tear that rifle down. That is an extremely rare and collectible rifle as it sits. Short action mag bolt face actions are a dime a dozen, but that rifle in factory form with box should be able to buy you a full custom action and some.

There were a crap load of these rifles made in 7 saum and 300 saum. I bought one in 300 saum in, I believe 2009, when they were being clearance out. When I ordered mine from Bromleys, they claimed they had enough to outfit a small army and I believe it because they had a listing for them on gunbroker for quite some time. Yes, they were all marked Sendero, but werent really popular at the time. Not really a rare gun.

I would be doing the same thing blackfoot! You have a action and stock that you can work with. Marksman has a point, it may be rare and worth money, to someone. I would gather parts, and if someone wants to buy this rare gem, they should pm you with their offer to save it. Once parts are in go for it, this 6.5 SAUM looks to be awesome! Cant wait for mine.
