Recently picked up a 18” 308 rifle in a trade and I’ve been tossing around the idea of re-barreling it to .260 in the same length (+ or - 2”)

was wondering if any any of you guys had any feedback about this potential build regarding performance out to around 800 yards

I have an 18" 6.5CM and some short 260s

21" barrel has been on my 1.5AW for many, many years, super accurate rifle, hence I have not changed it out. I also use a 22" version.

and I just ordered a 20" 260 from MHSA this week. Looking at these matches lately, I think a shorter, lighter rifle with lighter bullets is a solution to guys having a hard time with big, long, rifles in these heavy position events.

It's very capable with a shorter barrel, also consider going slightly lighter bullet wise, it's not always about the heavies

I picked up a Tikka TSR-1 in .260 which has a 20" barrel this summer and am really liking it. It's a bit of a departure from the heavy rifle I have been shooting for years. I still have to decide if I'm going to be using 136s or if I'll try another bullet. I've always liked the 123s in .260, but don't yet know the best powder to use for optimum performance in a short barrel.

Lash,

In a 260 try the 130 grainer's. Berger's AR Hybrid or Hornady's ELD Match work well, and loaded over RL19. Start at about 44.5 grains and work up with seating in the 2.90" + range till you find your node. Lapua or Peterson Brass. CCI BR2 primer.

I have 20” AINA/bartlein on my AW. Shoots fantastic. Mine prefered varget over h4350 with 140 eld’s. 2650 fps with no pressure in peterson brass. The peterson brass is legit by the way, dont overlook it.
