Short barrel bolt action options

I have been really thinking about building a rifle with a shorter barrel. Right now all the rifles I have are 24” or longer and I do shoot suppressed so I think I would like something in the 16-20 inch range but having trouble going between a 6.5 creedmoor or a .308. Are these going to be pretty much the same out of a shorter barrel? I have looked at velocity charts and they seem comparable. What would you go with and why?

Sorry forgot to put that use is really just to have fun...will target shoot out to 800 and will likely take Varmint or hog hunting occasionally maybe up to whitetail size game but nothing larger I have better tools for those bigger game animals

The .308 seems to lose less in short barrels vs the Creedmoor; that said, it's very likely that the Creedmoor will drop/drift less than the .308, while the .308 will likely maintain an edge in terms of energy on target at most common distances.
