short load for hunting 300 win mag 3.48 or down.

I have a weatherby Ultralight in 300 win mag. I had some rounds that I loaded up and shot fairly well with 210 amax.

I then realized this was point less as this is a hunting rifle and the round would not fit in the box.

I had to get the length down to 3.48 to get it to fit in the box. with 75 grains it was bulging the case out the side.

So back to the drawing board. I need some load data for a 180 grain or higher weight bullet.

I did find one box of Nosler Partions 180 in some old bullets I have I will try these. But any other Ideas I would appreciate. I will be hunting everything from pigs in florida to an elk.


The 210 game me lots of weight for power and I have shot that gun out to a thousand yards. Now I am starting over from scratch.

180 gr Nosler accubond work great in the 300. the will seat down to a 3.48 col just fine. you could even try the new 190 gr accubond long range they supposedly have a better bc and will open up at lower velocity.

My original research involved comparing load data across the board with 300 Weatherby. What I found, was that the performance of 165 grain bullets was dang near equal between those to cartridges. Of course, that was with available powders, at the time so maybe there are a few holes in my conclusions? But, I have hunted everything in north America except grizz, and my conclusions are that a 165 Hornady is up to the task. It's what I used then and still do. It may not be the best cross canyon bullet, but at reasonable ranges, it's a good killer and when exceptional accuracy is needed on pronghorn type game, I use the 168 Nosler. Works for me, given what I have. Plus, it doesn't kick like a Weatherby! BB
