I am thinking on shortening barrel on 26 inch Sako TRG 22 to allow use of suppressor. Would 19 inches be too short? I am a 100 to 900 meter shooter and would have work done by GA Precision. Any thoughts would be helpful.

You don't need to shorten the barrel to use a can. I have a TRG42 with a 27" bbl and use a large 338 can. I would try it with the bbl length you have first before you made a decision to cut it down.

Not too short. This has been covered ad nauseum on this site. However, it is too non-standard. Everyone either goes 18.5 or 20. If you go 19 you'll get picked on at recess. That's why I'm going 20 on my TRG.

I have a TRG 22 308 with a 20" barrel and I have shot it accurately out to 1100 yards. It is great and it feels good to pick it up and aim it. It handles terrifically. What a rifle! Sako's get my highest recommendation. And 20" barrels handle way better than the 26" I used to have.

how well does your barrel shoot? i have a trg 22 with 20" barrel and badger fte brake installed 5/8x24. i would prefer the factory length barrel so if you interested in trading barreled actions let me know. mine shoots 1/2" at 100yds with 155 scenars and i will provide test target if you want 5 shot group.

the added length would give me a boost in velocity and since most of my shooting is either prone or shot from some sort of barracade i don't mind the length if it will give me more velocity which in turn will give me less wind drift. which will make hitting the steel just alittle easier.

I know short is all the rage but i roll with what works for me and i am buy no means a "operator" of any sort. i only shoot matches and for fun so it doesn't bother me in the least.

I have a 20" on my TRG but I was going to chop to 18" or so, maybe even 16". We were shooting on Sunday, one of us had an 18" barrel and he was making hits at 1070 yards. Needed a bit more dope that a 26" barrel but otherwise it was hitting fine.

I agree, I shoot both 20" and 26" before I dedcided on the longer barrel.

Why mess with perfection? I would just leave it as it is and when or if you out shoot the barrel have GAP put a shorter barrel on it.

I have the trg-22 with the 20inch and I love it! The .308 is a great round in that it is pretty efficient so you wont see to much loss of velocity. I also like the shorter barrel for doing off hand shots and it seems to be more balanced.
