Gunsmithing Shortening barrel Barrett to 20"

Re: Shortening barrel Barrett to 20"

Well, I not going to say that it wouldn't fire a round out of it. But the powder that in that casing is a very slow burning powder and when you fire a round out of that barrel, don't be surprised to have a 1 ft flame shoot out. The pressure curvature of a slow burning powder will not subside before the projectile leaves the barrel. Air will accelerate the gases, causing it to ignite as the gases are expose to the air. So much for covert work!

You can buy a CQ (20") upper receiver assembly from Barrett to drop on your existing gun. Keep or sell your standard upper. If you cut the barrel, your warranty is gone. Call Barrett & talk to Bill Haas for tech info about this or Sheri to order an upper.

Re: Shortening barrel Barrett to 20"

We have a pair of Barrett CQ's and didn't like the performance we were getting at distance so we sent them back for the 29" barrels. We are just using AP and some AMAX and accuracy is hard to measure. I am not a gunsmith or anything but the barrels on ours are fluted and aren't at the crown end where the brake attaches.
