Other than CQB and a little weight reduction, is there any realized advantage?
It seems that the 16" barrel is the "packaged offer" with a manufactured rifle (7.62/.308). What's the desire?
Why not 18" or 20"?
I'm not trying to be confrontational, just learn and understand.

Re: shorter barrel advantages.

16" is the legal minimum. It is lighter, and easier to handle, no other advantages.

If muzzle velocity is increased 15fps per inch, unless you are shooting long range and need all the velocity you can get, is 60fps worth dealing with a rifle that is 4" longer?

It all depends on what you are trying to do.

More and more people are going shorter.

I've got 16" and 20" LMT MWS barrels, I swap them out to tailor to the situation.

agreeing with the above from all that ive read/observed myself but also have to point out that its caliber sensitive. unfortunately if i wanna shoot a .264 win mag as one of my rifles, its not happening in a short barrel.

however, my lr308 is in the process of getting chopped from 24 to 18 right now

Re: shorter barrel advantages.

I like to run with a lighter more compact weapon. If your looking for a range weapon it shouldn't matter how heavy or long your set up is if your just going from the truck to the bench.

You should hear a 14.5 inch .308 DAMN!

19.5" on a .243 Snow Predator with a RWS muzzle brake. Almost no recoil whatsoever, but she is rather loud when touched off. I don't mind it though, as I don't shoot without ear protection.
