Shot for the first time a S&W 6906 9mm compact. Recoil wasn't what i was expecting it was just a flip of the muzzle so to speak. I was expecting much more. I couldn't shoot it worth a shit, which doesn't bother me. But i couldn't get used to the trigger i've never shot anything like it. It has such a long length of travel before it hits. Almost like a 2-stage but extremely exaggerated. My first handgun i'm looking at is a 1911 it's my favorite handgun, it's what i want. 1911 triggers aren't like this are they? Because the 1911 is single action and the S&W is double right?

Single action triggers are more like a rifle (compared to a double action)... shorter pull usually around 4-6 pounds (double actions usually being around 10-12 pounds). Highly recommended you find a buddy with one, or you find a gun shop that has a range in it and allows you to rent guns- that way you can test before you drop a pretty penny on a gun you may not end up enjoy shooting.

Agree with SIG700--find a 1911 to shoot before you dump the cash. I love my 1911--much more than any Glock, but some folks hate them.

I think the 6906 is a DAO gun so most everything else will likely have a better trigger (no first hand experience with that particular model). A 1911 will be about as opposite as you can get.

I have a friend with a springer that i thought about calling today but he's working. Might give him a call tomorrow

    Good to hear.

We have a problem though.. i shot a Glock 21, Glock 22, and a Springfield XD...i'm hooked. Dad was even enjoying himself. He now says he's getting a glock 21. I actually liked the recoil of the Glock 21 more than the Glock 22. There was no comparison between the trigger of the Glocks and our 6906

I'm tempted to get a Glock myself wouldn't have to save fore 4 months, can find one readily, and would have something to put in the dresser at college.

Since my dad is getting one i'm going to continue saving for a springfield 1911 MC operator.

I think you would very much like a 1911. I have enjoyed shooting them but like it was said earlier some hate them. Just like with anything Ford vs Chevy and so on. Ive owned several Glocks but now shoot a Sig. Its really personall preference the reason I personally dont own a 1911 is I just cant get used to cocked and locked if I want to carry it, I feel much better abou the double action on my sig and not having to train to flip off that safety when the gun is drawn. Not saying its something I couldnt get used to or something you couldnt train and be good at its just different. Try out as many as you can before you lay down the cash would be my advise. And if you really want a 1911 try out several differnt makes it seems almost everybody has a 1911 these days Ruger, Sig, Remington, Springfield, Kimber and so on. Whichever you decide good luck and safe shootin to ya

I have a friend back home that i need to call up next time because he has a springfield 1911. I just can't see myself not liking it but who knows. I have little hands and the glock didn't bother me so i imagine i could have more control on a 1911. Also want to start working on my grip and controlling recoil. When i was shooting the Glock 21 the vertical recoil would make me have to re-adjust so i'm going to try this grip that Travis demonstrates int his video at the end. Added weight of the 1911 should reduce muzzle jump as well. Never realized how much fun handgun shooting could be. I'm already looking at buying 500rds of 230gr fmjs ammo from SWA.

I still have planned a MC operator, all black, surefire X300, and some McCormick 10rders. Just going to take some months.

Re: Shot my first centerfire pistol today.

I'm a recovering 1911 addict. I spend most of my pistol practice, and competition with the 1911 design. However, my primary carry piece is a Glock 26. To make the grip angle on the Glock similar to the 1911 I ground off the hump on the backstrap. Now the Glock points like a 1911 for me - and I have 10+1 rounds of additude adjustment.
