Anyone check out the new rifles coming announced at SHOT show?

I stopped by the AI booth today and they had a lot of new stuff out. Plenty of AX rifles and AX chassis systems were there. It looks like AI is going to be producing AE's in 7WSM, .260, and a couple of new calibers that I have never seen before. 300AI and 338AI, when I asked if it was a 338LM, I was told no, the 338AI should be half the cost to shoot compared to the LM. I also checked out the AE Covert. The suppressor is LIGHT!!!! It's really simple to attach. Slide the suppressor all the way back and half turn left and it's on.

Also got to play around with the Barrett MRAD. I am really liking this rifle. The action is pretty smooth, 2 torx screws and the barrel is out. The safety can be swapped to either the right or left side with no tools. Adjustable LOP and comb. It has a really nice trigger at a little less then 3lbs, but it feels less from my experience. I think it's adjustable just by looking at the crews on it when I pulled it apart. It will only be released with the 338LM and the .308 and 300WM conversions will be ready later on this year. I am really thinking about going with this rifle and I have never been a big fan of Barrett rifles. I might get it when they have the .308 conversions available.

I haven't been gone through the whole show yet as I have been walking around with friends looking at other things. I don't think I have even walked through 20% of the show yet. Is there anything else worth checking out?

From what the Rep told me brown is the only color it'll be offered in. The barrel release is 338lm initial, then 300wm, then 308win, and at the end of the year 260rem.

Keep an eye out here for gratuitous photos of the AI stuff.

Also, a word of praise for Stacey Blankenship, AI couldn't have a more affable, friendly and informative representative he spared no detail for time when questioned about his gear.

Same for Nightforce. I definitely know now for certain that as genuinely passionate about their product their generall sales manager was it's a company I can be completely satisfied sacrificing my funds to. Also, the new MLR2 is a great reticle. The only one that eclipsed it for me personally is the Finnaccuracy reticle that Finnish fellow has posted a few times.

LMT's 20 inch MWS is a lot lighter than I had expected.

    BB ,

I would look at some thing other than the Barrett 98B , actually almost anything else in 338LM cal ( except a Blaser ).

A guy has one here , and its not been that accurate from new , and has never been consistant , and Barrett are not interested , Opps , its had 700-800 rds thru it now and is a 1-1.5 moa shooter , he's looking at re-barreling privately .

Look at the AI AX , etc or a SRS if you want calibre change , although handy in theory ( Calibre / barrel / change ) , its not that practical in real LIFE , Opps .

The Sako TGR-42s are great 338LM rifles as well .

Not practical until you run out of 338lm but have plenty of 300 and 308 win ammo around. Or if you need extended range capability and don't have it or have a highly populated urban environment and there is worry about overpenetration hazard.

The operators running the multi-caliber srs love the versatility.

Don't forget being able to train on 308 in the exact same system as you shoot the bigger dollar stuff in.

    Re: SHOT Show Rifles

I liked the new FN gun. Can't remember the name but it has one. Got the feeling it may be a little pricey by the time its imported.

The mcSig 50 was a...McSig. Still a good gun.

    Didn't see DTA.

Stacey seemed to be in the zone. With good reason too, AINA has a product line to be excited about.

    Re: SHOT Show Rifles

ChrisF...the MRAD is a different beastie to the 98B. I've checked out the AX but as far as I can find out, in anything other than .338, it's an AW action in a new suit. Already got an AW...but thanks for the thought mate!

    Re: SHOT Show Rifles

I thought the post from earlier this week said that Barret was struggling to keep it on the target at 500-600yds with the 338LM.The post was talking about the guy from AGI shooting a 4in 5 shot grouup at 870yds with the 6.5CM nemesis rifle. How much is that Barret going to be?As far as ammo, you can shoot a 50bmg for probably cheaper.

Funny I shot a "well broken in" mrad at mammoth and had no issue what so ever putting 2 shots at 500 within 1" of each other.

    Re: SHOT Show Rifles

Sure, I know. In the UK finding places to shoot a .338 or .50 is a real PITA!

I get the feeling Barretts may be a little flaky - some report good things, others say they are inaccurate.

No fun having something that you can't rely on to hit what it's pointing at.....just an expensive waste of space in the safe!!

Yeah I slung 2 from the mrad too at mammoth. That rifle has an awesome future if only they increase the height of the butt pad. Mine was trying to go under my shoulder every time I shot. But it gave me the bug bad, plus the mrad is going to offer a bunch of different barrels, 308, 260, and some others kyle said I just dont remember.

Does anyone know what these will be selling for, in the 308 version?
