Is it hopeless or is anyone getting decent quality defensive shotgun ammo in? 2-3/4 #1 buck would be ideal

Then you have to buy quality 00buck, hardenedNo.
7 1/2 will not take down a man.
Dig the wad out of a neck. From across a small living room. 10 feet. This was a person in shorts. No shirt. With 7 1/2 shot.
No major damage.
Then tell me how good it works.
Good luck with that lawsuit.
At least get a serious turkey or goose load. Or learn to shoot a dang carbine if you wanna be serious.
But the real question is why didnt you listen to ArmyJerry????
A few 250 rd cases of 00 buck is on the list of buy more ammo!!
From a 12 ga? Wow. Only 10 feet with full choke? Having seen what a 20’ga can do to a duck blind (not ours but across pond with guests way back in day) #6 went through 1/2” plywood like butter, Granted point blank, that’s hard to believe I mean I believe you but no heck I’d want to get shot with anything coming out.No.

My sister-in-law is a trauma nurse at the county hospital in Oakland CA. She has seen people shot and stabbed with everything imaginable. She says the most effective and consistent way to kill someone is a shotgun with BB shot. It makes way too many holes that are too deep so they can't stop the bleeding.No.

I really just wanna know how anyone doesnt keep some of their chosen HD shotgun ammo on hand?
To be honest, I started with high power rifles (I attended Allegheny SC #1) , then moved to carbine, then to pistol... I'm just starting to develop my shotgun skills. I am not incapable of operating effectively within the confines of my home, just looking to become 'well rounded' in these troubled times.
Now I have that song in my headNo. Shotgun bullets are bad for ya health.

Do you work in medicine? Just curious based on your handle.
But rest assured 7 1/2 with a full choke will take down most folks unless they are wearing a big heavy jacket. Then you aim for the head. Problem solved.
over penetration is a bigger issue than taking more than one round to stop a bad guy
Thats really easy to claim when you aren't having your head bashed in by an intruder
I'm going to guess the risk of a stray pellet Just happening to hit someone through a wall is FAR less than the risk of an armed intruder harming you before you can get a second shot off.
I think over penetration and wall penetrations is way too overemphasized in shooting.
If you are relying on a few layers of sheet rock and an anemic round choice to protect your kids, you are doing it wrong from the get-go.

Ever seen a deer shot in the face at 20 yards with a 12 gauge 7.5 birdshot?
I'll assure you it has amazing results
Of course this was about 30 years ago so things may have changed?
-i stocked up on federal flitecontrol 00 buck and truball slugs for hunting and hd. i prefer one big hole and no spread.
if i was worried about over penetration, i'd probably go with #2-#4 buck to be safer.
didn't get any of the federal FC when they were selling #1 buck.

no. they have a lot more variety of loads that don't use the FC wad, but le13300 looks like reduced recoil FC ammo.-
Have TAP 00, loaded up in the 12 gauge .
Do all Federal 00 Buck have flight control Wad ? , Have a couple 10-box cases of the Federal ( LE 133 Buck 00 ) and I don't see flight control anywhere printed on the box's .
.
.
I have been using #4 buck for the last 50 years and it will get the job done.*Patiently waiting for the full-on "birdshot Vs. buckshot" debate.
OP: Have you looked for #4 buck? I admittedly haven't looked for shotgun ammo for a while, but I did see where Mossberg 500/590 shotguns were going for close to $1K recently on Gunbroker...and people were bidding. I imagine the run on ammo is correspondingly crazy.
My HD shotgun is loaded with Federal Flite Control copper plated #4 (31 instead of the normal 27 pellets). The shotgun is actually a backup to my 5.56, but it sits in a closet loaded...this is what happens when you run out of space in your third gunsafe and your wife puts her foot down on a fourth. You end up with loaded guns in every room.
