Should I make this trade?

Il be trading away aac-sd build. bell and carlson m40,weaver base, burris rings, pws brake and timney trigger for a howa legacy 1500 .223 and cash. Im getting out of .308 for now since I have nowhere to shoot farther than 200 yards, and im tired of paying $1-$2 a round for good ammo. Are howa's good shooters?

Howa's are generally good shooters. Not a whole lot available in terms of aftermarket stuff. If it fits your needs, I'd say do it.

I would hold on to your rifle and go buy a howa new from a store if you really want something in 223. It will cost a lot to build the same rifle later which you will do if you find a place to shoot.

My range only goes to 200 yards. Theres a 500 yard range in state but its a 2.5 hour drive away. I don't see myself making there very often.

Ah ok. Then I say do it. Howas are plenty accurate, especially at 200 yards or less

You haven't mentioned how well the .308 shoots and how much cash. It would have to be a lot of cash to make this trade worthwhile in my opinion.

Learn to reload. Bunch of lc brass, some 147 pulls and some diligence and you can be shooting on the cheap. 175 smk pulls pop up on the hide as well.

+1 on the pulls and also factory seconds, while you may not be able to shoot at range now but who knows when something may open up closer.
