should i rebarrel my SPS to shoot heavy bullets???

Re: should i rebarrel my SPS to shoot heavy bullets???

I've heard of a few guys being able to stabilize the 105gr A-Maxes out of the factory tube, but I'd be willing to bet that they had to drive them pretty hard.

As far as rebarreling your rifle goes there are a bunch of 'smiths that frequent this site that are capable of putting a new barrel on your rifle along with truing your action. You would probably want to look into aftermarket stocks/bedding your rifle while you were at it too if you already haven't done so. The factory plastic stock will be a weak point for consistancy.

I'd try running an 87gr Vmax from that factory tube. They'll get ya to 800yds on the cheap...

Then when you've become bored at 800, and/or or shot the barrel out, get you a fast, 1:7.5" tube & good stock. (you could be saving for these along the way). Have the work done by a reputable 'smith...
When your new hammer is returned in all it's glory, commence rockin' 115DTACS with your 1K capable .243...

Re: should i rebarrel my SPS to shoot heavy bullets???

i bought 1000 87gr vmax and 1000 105 amax, so im gonna shoot both for a while. Ive been looking at the b&C Tactical Medalist A5 Fully Adjustable stock. I have a mark4 6.5x20 for it i just need a 20moa base, i have nightforce ultra lite rings. I think im on the right track but i wanna make a good run here without wasting any money.

I have the same rifle. Mine shoots fine out to 1000yds with 105 amax. You should have no problem with those since you are at higher elevation then me. Im close to sea level.
