I have 5 AR's and 5 AK's and I wouldn't part with any of them since I don't need the money at the moment. For me, there's too much risk that I won't be able to buy replacements. It's nice to cash in, but also for me, the only thing better than cash is a prized asset.

If you sell I would would get a photo copy of his drivers license and/or carry/purchase permit.
If he doesn't want to do it them don't sell it. It's protection for you in case something were to happen with the rifles.
