I know that there are lots of different ways to hang your target posted here on the hide. I am trying to compare all the different ways in hopes to come up with "the best" way.
I shoot on public land so they have to be moderately portable.

So you show me your and I'll show you mine

Awesome target buddy. I can't wait to get mine and incorporate it into my training routine. I'm sure the numerous LE agencies that I train with are really gonna dig it as well. IDB really leads the way with their quality products and their customer service. Good job.

I use 2' x 4' x 1/4" plywood sheets held to green metal garden stakes by clamps. Boards = $7.00 ea, clamps = $2.99 ea, stakes = $5.99 ea.

I like this method because it allows me to have all my targets stapled up on the boards the way I want before leaving home. That way, it doesn't take very long to get my targets set up during a break in live fire at the range. Also, I just throw the boards in the truck at the end and look the targets over when I get home. The plywood boards last longer than you might expect; I've had several last a couple years. You could easily use a 2' x 2' board if you wanted to make carrying easier.

Re: Show your target

I don't have any pics but just went out this weekend to public lands to shoot steel and try out some lightweight target stands. We were looking for lightweight and portability because the walk to get out to 300+ yards involves lots of hills.

We went with two designs, one worked and one did not. We used 3 four foot fence posts. (similar to the ones posted above with the plywood.) We pounded two into the ground and then lashed the 3rd one between the two. We placed it at 400 yards and put a 12" plate on it. The stand lasted all day but the rope would only last for an hour before enough fragments had cut it in half.

The second stands were for smaller 6" plates. We weren't worried about them being too heavy for PVC pipe so that's what we used. We were worried the bullet gragments would break the pipe but figured we'd give it a try. The pipes did pretty well as long as we only shot .223. Once it was shot with a .308 or bigger the PVC would be cut in half. Again, ropes are not a good idea, they don't last. Great for shaving weight though over chains.

So our lightweight target stands didn't work out as we hoped, they worked ok, but we were hoping to not have to fix targets all day and were stuck fixing them about every 45 minutes. The fence posts worked very well, if we had just used the normal chains it would have been perfect. The fence posts are pretty cheap and about as light as you're gonna get without having to worry about the spall breaking the stands.

Re: Show your target

for what its worth i use an old swingset that i found i cut it down and can hang steel form it.thing is pretty light and i can carry it by myself.also for target shooting i use and older reality sign thae kind where you can slide outthe ad,i install a piece of that plastic corigated poster board and staple my targets to that it only weighs a pound and can fit in about anything you drive.soon as i get a new camera ill post some pics.

Re: Show your target

I have welded 4x8x18" sections of rectangle tube to 1 1/2" angle (like a big popsicle), cut a point on the angle, and weld a small step on to ease sticking in the ground.
I also hang rectangle tube from saw horses.
I recently bought a for sale sign frame from lowes for about $17, and zip tie all those midway boxes to it. Then tape or staple targets to that.
I will post some pics.

Re: Show your target

Vote for Pedro.

I just grab a bunch of the "vote for whoever" signs from the local political offices or from a polling location the day after a vote.

They are made From corrugated plastic and have aluminum wire frames.

Quick, free, portable.

Re: Show your target

Sorry I have been "out of service". The family needed some time away from home for thanksgiving. I will get some pics up here in the next couple of days.

I should have named this thread "how you hang your steel" as that is more what i was looking for, but hey you guys have alot of nice setups.

Thanks

Chris
