Vortex PST Optic

Can't wait to get it back!

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

Mike, Let me know how you like the PST, I have been thinking about getting one. I havent even had time to take anything out in over 3 months. This whole house buying and renovating is getting old really quick. LOL

Travis, not really sure what your budget is but the SPS Tact with the 9tw barrel is a very nice budget rifle, just put it in a new stock and a Timney Trigger and you will have a sweet budget rifle. I have a SPS-V with the 12tw and it shoots the 40gn VMAX out to 300yds under half MOA with handloads

Shanked the 4th shot, and if you throw that out shots 1-3 and 5 are 0.365 MOA @ 300yd. Given my relative inexperience with precision rifle, I'm happy even counting the pulled shot.

My pair of steel and coyote killers. A Remington .223 tactical and a rebarreled 7t rock creek.

vortex5-15004.jpg

The factory tactical at 1000y shuld have been a 5 shot group but the fourth fell off the left edge and due to the conditions I could not see where I was hitting and I over held the wind on the 5th.
001-5.jpg

Could have been a nice 8-9" group otherwise... using 75g Berger VLD's at the time.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

Great thread. Was just thinking the other day about putting together a .223 rig. Alot of ideas here. Thanks for the pics guys.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

Savage in an XLR. Just finished putting her together so no range report yet. She'll get out on the 800yd range next weekend.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

Here's my new baby. Just got it, and only been out once. New 700 action from Brownells. Bartlien 1-8 heavy varmint finished at 28". Jewell trigger and McMillan A2 stock. The stock is from my old 308. I've got an order in with Manners for a t6a. Should be here next month. Hopefully.

Barreled action put together by Keith Kilby at Wyoming Armory. APA handled the transfer and also threaded the bolt handle and coated it for me.

Shooting 80 gr SMK with 24.5 gr of Varget in a Lapua case. I haven't done any load development yet. I think I can shrink the groups a little.

100 yds. First rounds down range.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

I'll play

Here's mine:

.223 trainer (.223 in the Fore ground, .260 in the background) that MileHigh put together for me:

PerfectTrainer.jpg

Here is a previous post with the first three shots at 100 yards:

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...718#Post3637718

I have taken it out to 988 yards but the performance was spotty with 69gr MatchKings as they were starting to go sub-sonic but the gun hammers prairie dogs all day long at 3-500 yards. I once went 4 for 4 beer cans at 418 yards at private range at my brothers ranch using 50gr Vmax bullets.

This is great way to introduce kids to long distance shooting.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

I'm going to need more details than that on a rifle as cool as this one above.

Also, what sling is that?

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

There are some sweet rifles here! Keep them coming! I'm really serious about building a pop can buster (for fun practice) and I'm getting some great ideas for something to present to my gunsmith for a template.

There's a lot of advantages to a 223. If you shoot a cartridge that's hard on barrels, especially competitively, you'll wanna save some wear on the barrel. It's also more economical to shoot and allows you to get more practice while remaining serviceable as a varmint hunter or target shooter, which is where the 22lr falls short as a training round.

I've also seen a 223 in a 24" bolt gun make consistent hits at 760 so it's very versatile in the right package and at only ~$0.17 a shot.

I say go for it.

Re: show your ULTIMATE .223s

In the front. .223AI, Bartlein #2.5 1:8T JBM data is spot for the 75g Amax. Sub 1/2 MOA most days.

It's Duracoat Marsh. I took a gamble on it, looking for a pale gold, and when it showed up it was very yellow. I added a couple parts black to darken it up and it came out nice. My camera doesn't capture color well, that's why it looks off.

Very nice looking rifles, what drew you guys to this caliber. I am thinking about a .223 AI, seems like I could get more shooting out of it compared to the .308

Nice rifle BU.
For some reason it looks really familiar.

Kind of like the 3rd one pictured in this thread?
