Re: Shrewd Brakes..... What's good ...bad???
The Shrewd brakes work ok, but are nothing to write home about. The biggest complaints I have with them are: 1) they are 360 degree ported which means they will kick up dirt, dust, debris, etc. if you are shooting prone (or otherwise are close to any loose objects); and 2) they are louder, in my experience/opinion, than some other brakes on the market (that's my own subjective experience with them so take it for what it is).
No matter what brake you chose...short of a suppressor...you will be stuck with a louder rifle than one without a brake at all. This includes designs like the Levang/linear brakes/comps that try to direct the blast away from the shooter. It is just the nature of the beast. How you plan on using the rifle is probably the best factor to dictate the most suitable brake.
