I got a bag of the recommended sockets (the ones with the exterior threading to let the Marinetex get a good bite) and I was just thinking the project over before I started drilling holes in my McMillan.
1) This is the first time I've gone to a side-mount sling on a precision rifle. What is the preferred positioning for the sockets (i.e. inches from the front of the forend, high/low on the butt, etc.)
2) What about adding a third socket somewhere forward of the pistol grip to allow a CW-type sling arrangement? Useful idea, or who cares?
3) Lastly - has anyone ever experienced the rear QD disconnecting under field conditions? I could see a scenario when low crawling that the rear QD button could get depressed while there's pulling tension on the sling (dragging the rifle forward as you sniper crawl), which wouldn't be life-threatening but might be a pain in the ass.
