Hey guys, I'm about to put in another order for bullets and I'm wondering if anyone can break-down the Sierra Palma 155 and the Berger 155 VLD for me.

I'm really looking for long range (we shoot up to 1200yds at our range)and my 168s are no bueno out there but I have had good hits with the 150/155gr family.

Thanks in advance!

Skip the 155VLD and get the 155.5 fullbore's. I personally haven't shot the 2156's but two very close friends have and like them very much. I've seen both perform well at 1300.

Perhaps not in Palma. We have been running them here in Vegas with some luck....

Just sayin....

Dont get me wrong the 155.5 appears to be a great pill. The question would be a cost per trigger pull vs your skill level.

Yes the Sierra is a lot less expensive.

I've shot them in four rifles (Sierra #2156) at 200, 600 & 1000 yards....they suck 1 to 1.25 moa. The Berger 155.5 and Sierra #2155 shoot 1/2 moa or less. I put a new Brux 1-12 tight bore 298/3075 finish at 32 inches on my old AI palma, and have a brand new rifle Borden M action with a Krieger 1/11 tight bore 298/3073 finish at 34. My tactical rifle does not like them either.

Just played with the 155 Lapua Scenars in a Rem PSS yesturday, spent a few hours working up a load and had no issues getting to 2930 fps with Varget in Lapua brass. Groups @ 600 yds averaged 4" with 6-8 mph fill value winds.

With the 175s, you need to get in the 2700 + fps range to be close to supersonic @ 1200, and even then its sketchy. The 155s @ 2900-2950 should be around 1150 fps @ 1200 yards.

I made the mistake of picking up some Sierra "Palma" bullets recently, a wise friend (F-class competitor) knows the Sierra Palmas well and informed me I received the old Palma 2155Cs and not the new 2156s. The 2155s are the 155 SMKs that have been around a while, repackaged as "Palma" bullets.

Say what? 2155s have always been packaged as a Palma bullet as its their old Palma bullet with the 2156 just coming out recently and its also a Palma bullet. The 2155 is a great bullet, just a different shape then the new 2156 which has a better BC. I shot some great scores and great targets with the 2155 but the 2156 is better in the wind and is what the USNRT has moved to, so its what I shoot. Still got the old 155s and will shoot them up over time.

Have also shot the 155.5s and the 155VLDs and both do well, but they are more per box. I did notice in Canada that team members using the 155vlds were using less wind than I was using the 2156....if I was running 6 mins, they were running 4.5-5mins. Sorta figured that.

They will all shoot well if we do our part......

i shoot the new 2156's out of my rem. milspec r5 in front of 48.5 grns. of vv550 and can get .5 moa all day long.longest range i've shot them at has been 300 yards so far though.i love bergers, but this rifle did'nt,regardless of powder.every gun knows what it likes to eat.
