A neighboring agency alerted us to a problem they discoverd with the lips(that hold the floorplate on)on the bottom of their 226 magazines cracking. As a result, we checked ours and found SEVERAL that were cracked. All of the cracks were on the left rear corner. They are difficult to see at first, but with a little pressure, the entire lip snapped off.
I am not blaming Sig. These magazines are about 10 years old and have been repeatedly dropped on concrete range floors. I would recommend that those with high use magazines take a look at them.

Re: Sig Magazine Cracking

Just goes to underline the fact that magazines are consumables, something that budget people don't always take into consideration.

The Sig factory magazines are made by Mec-gar.

Agreed. These were difficult to see, even when we knew exactly where to look. Like I mentioned before, it's not Sig's fault. It's wear. It is curious, though why it is ONLY occuring in one specific area. I doubt that every single magazine strikes the floor on the bottom left rear corner of the magazine, everytime it's dumped.

Re: Sig Magazine Cracking

I'm wondering what sort of front seats/center consoles your vehicles have. There's a lot of strange wear and tear on duty pistols from things that are momentarily in the way of an officer's entrance and egress and typically on the grip from the seat belt itself.

Re: Sig Magazine Cracking

I can say their 10rnd 45 mags SUCK. 2 out of the 3 I had won't go back together after being used very lightly and dropped during training (onto asphalt/concrete).
.
As in the plate that goes between the spring and base plate will not realign properly. Attempting to load is a no go an results in entire mag contents being dumped all over the ground/floor. So I would AVOID the 220 10rndr's, at least the ones with the spacer at the base to cover the mag when hanging out of the grip.
