Rifle Scopes SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

The field of view on the 16x is only 6.5 @ 100yds.

The 10x is a little more respectable, 10 @ 100yds.

Might want to compare the field of view on other brands before you make your final decision, as you will not be able to dial down to gain field of view with a fixed power optic...

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

I would get the 10.

Also, with all the discounts now you should take a serious look at the bushnell 3-12 FFP, it is 600 at midway with coupon code 4200. Lots of scope with lots of features for a good price.

Since it's FFP mil mil you can always dial according to the reticle or holdover using the reticle at all powers. They also have a lifetime warranty and a 1 year moneyback guarantee.

Just something to consider before you spend your hard earned cash.

PS - there is a video review by lowlight of this scope, he seemed to like it.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

In the reviews I have read, the original S.S. 10x, and 16x have better glass. And they are $250 cheaper. For $50 more you can get the S.S. 3-9 that also has mil turrets. IMHO the Sightron fixed scopes are pretty comparable to the original S.S. scopes, but cost more money.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

I live in the cali desert temp about 110-120 in summer 50-60 in winter. I really dont like tasco or bushnell had bad exp. with customer service. A buddy of mine has a ss16x42 and nothin but problems. Bought the scope from swfa last year and was already an 8 year old scope that bushnell wont warranty it. ABO takes 12-16 weeks and 35 dollar money order. To much work for a Tasco!

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

10x is enough mag imho.

I have a SIII 10x fixed and unless they have made the turrets have alot more resistance then i can not recommend that scope. The adjustments are accurate the glass very good, and the scope is nice and compact, but as time has gone by I can't count the amount of times that the scope turrets have turned at least 5 moa just being in a bag. My 10x super sniper has never had this problem and that scope was much less money.

I have heard that sightron had plans to give the turrets more resistance. If that is the case then it will be an excellent little scope. I am going to call Sightron this week and see if something can be done to the one I have. Other wise Iam going to sell it.

Also must say iam a huge sightron fan. I have a 8-32 SIII that is a excellent scope. I would rate a 10 out of 10 for the money.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

The original lot of Sightron SIII fixed power scopes did not have a stipulated spec. for turret tension. That issue has been resolved.
Sightron will replace the turret system on the units that need attention, and they are great to work with. Oh, and the new turrets are very crisp and require a good bit of torque to manipulate. No complains here.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

Thanks for the info GPK I will call Sightron and see if they can update my scope. 1shooter762 if you do decide on the SIII just make sure you call and ask if the scope has the new stiffened turrets.

If the turrets are now that stiff the scope is g2g.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

I talked to sightron yesterday and they said thighing up the turrets was onen of there major complants and the issue has ben changed so looks like Im goin with the SIII 10x.

Good choice. I don't think you will be disappointed with it. Sightrons are a good buy for the price.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

I'm glad I saw this thread. I have the 16X with loose turrets. One call to Sightron and they said dend it in. Its a great scope and I would love to get another one.

Re: SIII 10x fixed or 16x fixed?

Emilio, thats great to hear got off work late today but will call tommorow. This thread is turning me into a even bigger sightron fan.

Would i have been happier if the turrets were stiff to begin with? Yes. But to see a company admit it has a problem and retroactivly fix scopes says a ton about a company.
