It's basically all for looks and to follow the spec. Same line as going for the A4 vs A5 stock, or the saddle vs integral cheek piece. There are a lot better options out there, but it feels good to do a faithful repro of an issued and fielded system.
Of course, you could argue that getting an actual SIMRAD would be even more faithful of a spec build, but unless someone reeeeeaaally wants to go full anal, that bloated piece of hardware is better left alone. But even if that was the case, I think going for the EFR mount and front mounted NV is a whole better choice.
