SJC Titan 7.62 Help! Please???????

I just got my AR 10 from Noveske and the SJC Titan comp that came with it had what appeared to be rust in two spots. The rust or whatever it was looked reddish and was thick. I called Noveske and took pics see below that I sent to them and arranged to send the upper back to them. I cleaned the comp with hoppies #9 and a brass brush and the finnish came off down to the raw steel. The steel looked slightly pitted. Noveske has been great and is working on a solution and I could not be happier with them. They have found that they are having the same problem on more of same SJC comps. Not sure what I want to do at this point.... the comp works great but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the SJC titan?

I've got a black SJC on my 5.56 AR.

I don't have any rust spots on mine, and it has been shot in the rain.

That is a pretty nasty rust spot for a new rifle.

Let us know what happens.

Thxs for the info ... Noveske is considering bead blasting them and then putting their finish on it.

got one and put it on my AR. no spots or rust at all. i think i'll need to see pictures of the whole rifle to give an answer

Sorry don't have whole rifle pics yet already sent the upper back to Noveske. The rifle is new delivered last week from Noveske with no other problems...

No need to send your whole upper. Just spin the comp off and send it back to them or CPWSA for a replacement.

Is that one of the stainless models? If it was blasted and wasnt stainless I could see it getting rusted pretty quick. Mine isnt stainless (5.56) and I have had no issues. I would love to hear what you think of it on the .308. I know mine is amazing.

The 308 comp is amazing the recoil is down to nothing... So freaking loud ! Mine is not stainless as you can see. but now it is parkerized... What do you think of the vortex optics I just ordered a Nightforce for the AR 10

AFAIK, the .308 model Titans aren't available in SS. Wish they were.

Lochem158, did you receive the rifle that way out of the box, or did the rusting occur after firing? You mention the 308 comp works well, so I'm assuming you already fired the rifle or have you already had previous experience with one?

Also, Noveske built you the N6 and they gave the option of using the SJC comp?

The rifle was built by Noveske and yes I think I am the first person to get the SJC Titan Comp from them... other than their shooting team which is where I got the idea. The rifle arrived out of the box with rust on the comp. Noveske had me ship the upper back to them, but not before I took it out and ran it through its paces... it's preformed amazing. They were going to just install another one but They found the same problem on the other one they had in stock. They bead blasted and then parkerized the comp to fix the problem. They did mention that they were thinking of ordering any future SJC Titans in the white and then finishing themselves.

Wish they were." was a response to TangoDown's question asking if your comp was a stainless model. To the best of my knowledge, the .308 ones aren't, only .223. Do you know something I don't?
