I just got one of my 788's turned into a "Scout" rifle. I know absolutely nothing of "shooting slings", so any advice I can garner on the subject would be appreciated. Which one do you recommend?

Check out the TIS quick cuff as well. Both are very good slings, but I prefer the TIS.

i played with TIS and TAB. Ended up with TAB but it was a coin toss.

Yes because the TAB was still in the development stages then, the TIS is a good sling, I have one on my service rifle, I have a Turner leather on my Garand, but both my bolt guns(308+260) have TAB slings, its the easiest to use, most comfortable, and its KISS.

Contact Matt, Woodlanddude here on the hide. Ask him to put you in contact with Brock from ASC. Brock has developed what is IMHO the best shooting sling available. I have 3 of them now and I will not use another sling for shooting. I was able to hit 3 out of 5 shots unsupported at the "Dance the Lindy" stage (which if memory serves is right at a 400 yard shot) at ASC in VERY HIGH winds. The winds were strong enough to actually move you while in a seated position. I could not have done it without Brock's sling.
Brocks sling is very well thought out and extremely easy to use.

While i was looking i considered both the TAB and TIS... to be honest im still unsure and have yet to make a decision, maybe this will assist me as well.

Own both of them, used both of them.
Don't use the TIS sling anymore.
The TIS is a great sling, but IMO you get the same advantages with the TAB sling without having to keep up with a cuff.
Get out to the closest competition to you and I'm sure you will find people who own both.
Try them out and see which is a good fit for you.

So the record is straight, the Marine Corps selected a TIS sling before I had even started TAB GEAR at all. I used TIS for years cause it was the only sling on the market.
We like our slings, as do many other people around the world, civilian, LEO, and military units. I would suggest trying different slings out like Dr. Phil recommended.

TIS was never the only sling on the market. The 1907 design, AI Slings ( Both Biathalon and the one similar on front end to TAB) The Ching and many others. I do believe that TIS and TAB are the two best sling companies for precision rifles. TIS and TAB both use materials and designs I believe to be far superior to anything else on market. I use my designs and TAB in my classes to give guys a choice and show them ins and outs of all designs. At the end of the day what is important is they are comfortable and know how to use the gear they have.
I have said this before I like my designs best but if I had not made my own designs I would be using a TAB Sling. If you can not make a hit with a 1907 design, TAB, and/or TIS design, its you and not the sling. Time to train.

Actually it should have been out last month but I broke my back and cant sit at machine to sew. My workers are busy with military contract sling orders so no time to stop and train them on new designs. Triad will get a few next week but mass amounts wont be for another thirty days. I hope everyone likes them.
TIS has gotten many US Military Contracts, starting in 1999. Then in mid 2000's Military Contracts started to flow. We have continued to work on military contracts every 1-2 months since.
The US Army, Navy and USMC have made large purchases in last few months. Obviously gearing up! We are currently filling a large 2010 order for Army, Just filled large order for USMC and Navy,and another for USMC is in line so TIS is hardly old news.
With that said a Sling is just a tool on a rifle and you should try as many as possible to see what fits your needs.

I'm a big fan of the TIS slings but I also like using a VTAC sling in the old school "wrap your arm through and use the tension of the sling on the forearm" technique. I used that method on service matches when I used to shoot at Benning and it required getting the issue sling length just right. Using an adjustable sling like the VTAC makes getting that tension down pretty fast and easy.

I like both my TAB and TIS. The TAB is longer and makes the rifle more comfortable to carry (especially when coyote hunting), but I do like the quick cuff option of the TIS. They are both great slings.

Brasscow, on rear of the TIS Slings. You will notice the loop back through middle section of the sling. If you disconnect this and string like front of sling you now have a real long strap so you can Patrol Carry your weapon, over shoulder so not a case of too short of a sling. Its a case of my instructions included suck.
