Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> RESULTS BELOW!

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Yeah I am the same way, I have my dad and brother sending in targets as well now. I was Jealous when dad won a cool prize on his first go around. That is pretty cool though because he is horrible at shooting anything other than a deer.

Anyway yeah I will send it in. Thanks for the advice. Later

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Not a problem at all. And again, congrats on an awesome target!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Hey JB, my brother and I have our targets on the way to you now. Thanks again for a great shoot. It was tons of fun this time. We shot in the rain a little up here in the wet NW but still have a good time.

Jake

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

well had to head to work for 20 days, today, never got to shoot them. but i will send in one for a chance at a raffle...maybe next go round

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Holy Moly!!

My wife was not feeling very good when we were supposed to go shoot, so she let my son's friend shoot her centerfire target. This kid is only 11 years old. And just guessing, but I believe his 3-shot group to be somewhere around .5 MOA!!

And to make me feel even worse about it, this was his 1ST time behind anything other than a .22lr!! It was nothing short of AWESOME to watch!! I was completely blown away...

It was snowing and the wind was blowing, and the temp was hovering right around 26 degrees. Needless to say, the barrel never really had a chance to heat up much. I was really happy with my 3-shot group, but I was a bit upset with my 40/50... missed it by a mile. Everything else was nice and tight.

This was a bit of an expensive shoot for me, as we ended up using my Federal Golds. Oh well, it was great to see the looks on everyone's faces when they pulled their targets down. We ran out of light with it being so overcast and all, so hopefully we will get to shoot the Rimfires this week of possibly the weekend.

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Rimfires are definately done, and are inbound!! These Mossbergs are just not cuttin it. We are gonna have to look around for a good deal on some Savages!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Rimfire & centerfire targets are on the way back. Of course I end up putting this off to the last few days to get them sent back and the weather was crap & windy - but still a lot of fun to shoot.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Sent my rimfire target over the weekend. CBS was dead on the smiley, the rest...

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Couldn't make this one, maybe next time.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Man, there doesn't seem to be too much traffic here. Did everyone do terrible or something?? I didn't do great, but I did pretty good, or at least I feel like I did.

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Yeah DK, I dont know, seems kind of slow around here. I am excited to see the scores though. It was a fun shoot this time.

We'll see though, if the wife beat me on the rimfire I dont know if I will here the end of it. LOL.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

I am really anxious to see my final score... I did pretty well (on RF). My rifle didn't get in for the CF comp, though. I had to burn 4 targets. Sucks.

Can't speak for everyone else, but I know i did terrible...

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

jb1000,
Where are we on the system for us to pay for all the targets for next year at once? Can I send an order for the whole year? I don't want to miss a match in my forgetful old age....

You must have done well!

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

My rimfire stunk... cept for the 3-shot group part. Other than that, it is definately a low score lottery ticket. At least I didn't get skunked on this one!! That was rather embarassin.

My centerfire ended up really nice overall... cept the stinkin 40/50. I really liked my 3-shot group on that one as well. Confidence shot was almost directly on top of the other one in the 30 Ring. That one got my blood pumpin pretty good. Definately not my best effort all in all, but it was nice seein the 10FPLE shootin the lights out again.

It ended up being a pretty nice shoot for all of us. It is just a great thing when family and friends get out together for a day of punchin holes!! Absolutely love it!!

Aiight... SEND IT!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

I know I didnt do to good this time around. Decided to shoot the deer rifle rig with 3-9 and my wife also shot her deer rifle. We both had decent RF for us but Im sure nothing close to the top.

Look at it this way, IF she did, she will be buggin you to buy MORE targets in the future. Sometimes, a little competition goes a LONG way!! My wife normally shoots with me, but didn't feel well enough to be in this time around. So I'm happy for ya Bro!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

DK, that is true. I taught her some good fundamentals once and since then she seems to be able to control her breathing and trigger finger pretty well. It also helps that she is shooting match grade weapons.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Results should be up tonight guys.

Couple things:

-The circle around the 40/50pt smiley still DOES NOT COUNT, you have to hit the small smiley for points
-un-shot targets do not count for raffle tickets...don;t need a score, but they have to be shot.

Carter...you did set a new record

More later,

Awesome! I asked about the wipeout, but never asked if it was a double wipeout!!!

SMACK THE SMILEY FALL 2010 RESULTS

Congrats to Matchking & Carter Mayfield our FALL Match Winners!

With the Fall match, we raised another $269 for AmericanSnipers.org!! That puts the total at over $7000 raised from the Smack the Smiley Match!

Competition was tough as usual, with a NEW RIMFIRE SCORE RECORD. Way to go CARTER! You gotta nail everything to be near the top 200 didn't even get you in the top 9 in CENTERFIRE or top 13 in RIMFIRE this time! WOW!

Not as many small groups as last time but a lot of good scores. The top 3 RIMFIRE scores are higher than the top CENTERFIRE score! May have to start having the RF guys shoot at 100yds too

Results should be up on the website soon, but here they are below for those that can't wait

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

You must be shittin me! I have never won anything in a raffle in my entire life... and you're telling me I won a gift certificate from Manner's?

I'm in disbelief.

A big thanks to all involved in putting this together and donating prizes.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

And thanks, Jason, once again for putting this on! I am psyched about the Seekins rings! And I guess I should say thanks to the snipers as well for keeping us safe.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Matchking and Carter, Very well done guys!!!! Congrats on the good scores and the prizes.

Jason, once again you are the man! Seems like I always say that but I know this is a lot of work and not much compensation for it. Your time is appreciated.

Good Job guys, I will get you next time. LOL

Jake

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Jason,

Thanks once again for putting this together and to all the vendors who donated prizes for this great cause.

I can not believe that I won the Badger surprise, should be a match made in heaven for the Manners stock from last time
wink.gif

As before absolutely count me in for the Winter targets for centerfire and rimfire.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Another big thanks to JB and all the sponsors that continue to give to such a great event and a great cause.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

I agree with everyone else. Thank you to all of the match sponsers and JB for running this thing. I know I have had a blast shooting the targets the last few times and my wife has fun shooting them also.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Very fine shooting folks.

Forgot to answer Scott from above RE: "STS Subscriptions" for 2011.

Starting AFTER the Winter/Snowflake Match, you will be able to pay for the entire 2011 season at once so you don't forget and miss out on a match. I have not worked out everything yet, but basically if you want 2RF and 2CF for every match, you can pay ahead for all 4 matches of 2011 and I will just send you the targets when the time comes for each match. More to come on this after the Winter match.

Thanks again all, glad you are still having fun

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Sweet! That's a new personal best for me in RF
grin.gif

I've finally got my .308 back from Rob snyder so I'll be able to shoot both classes for the first time in this years snowflake match.

Thanks again Jason for putting this on. Loads of fun, and always a good learning experience.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Big Thanks. This is my first contest period. It was a blast. Looking forward to the next one.

To be fair, you didn't see my other 3 targets.
laugh.gif

Actually, I bought 4 and shot that one on target number 3 and didn't even bother shooting the fourth target. I can't top that... I got really lucky. Usually, over the course of 4 targets, I will shoot a tiny group or hit the 40pt smiley as well as the confidence shot... but the tiny group and the confidence shot rarely coincide. In this case they landed on the same target AND I got a wipeout which is like winning the lottery. I wanted to get the guys shooting next to me to sign the target, then I thought that was goofy. This is the honor system, anyway.

I know that they say that it is the Indian not the arrows, but I feel like the gear is a significant part of this (especially for RF). I don't think it is a coincidence that over the past year, that two out of the top 3 rifles have been 40X's. Tuna921 and I both run 40X's crafted by top benchrest smiths (Brian Voelker for him, Gene Davis for me) and shoot with match grade Eley (Tenex for him, lot tested Match for me). If our rifles and ammo were handed to a lot of these competitors, I don't think we would be placing so consistently at the top. And obviously, an Anschutz with a Lilja barrel is nothing to sneeze at.
grin.gif

I have a lot of respect for guys that can do so well shooting 10/22's... not that there is anything wrong with 10/22's... I personally love, them, but I wouldn't expect to see a 10/22 winning a benchrest comp, which is essentially what this contest is. Steven W shooting a 262 last go round or LineDrive301ft shooting a .19 group both with 10/22's, well I find that really impressive... not to criticize any of the arrows, but to point out that we have some pretty fine Indians running around here who deserve some credit.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

THANKS JB and to all the GREAT SPONSORS!! This format is terrific. Nice shooting guys.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Thanks JB for making this a truly great competition.

Thank you sponsors for your generous prize donations.

Congrats to Matchking and Carter, good shooting guys.

Looking forward to the snowflakes.

Regards

Mark

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Thanks goes to JB and all the sponsors - it was fun as usual and supports a good cause. Congrats to Carter and everyone else that participated - good shooting. While I can think of no new strategy for the RF targets, I have settled on high power scopes (even if they are Leupolds) and big bullets for the CF.
grin.gif

Anyway, thanks again to everyone involved. I look forward to next time.

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Well, as I said, you guys are consistant. Beit Indians and arrows, or arrows and wannabe indians... I am humbled. Hopefully Santa is gonna get the hint and bring me a reloader. I've been good... sorta.

If Uncle Sam decides to let me actually have MY money back this year, I have a new rifle in mind... so we will see what a new stick and some cooked up arrows will produce. God, I love this stuff!!

DK

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Re: Smack the SMILEY Fall 2010 ---> ENTRY OPEN!

Well, my In-laws are here from Texas to help me out on taking care of my wife. They have expressed interest in shooting the Smiley's with us next time around too!!

I don't know for sure yet if my Mother-in-law will be able to handle the .308, but I know she is a really good shot with the .22lr's. They have also brought their Marlin Model 25 with them, so we will have something else to compete with on the Rimfire's. The Mossberg's are gonna have to be retired!!

DK
