Man, I didn't realize until just now that I lost in the centerfire agg count by only 3 points! I am getting better, but still haven't come close to smelling a victory in CF. My agg group size was also second place. Of course, looking at CF, it is also more random who gets first place as well. CF is just a tough, tough match. RF competition is far more consistent.

Anyway, I broke down and got a barrel tuner for my 22LR. I will never be able to match my personal best here, but I hope to be more consistent now than I have been lately. I haven't won a match in over a year!

Hmmmm, haven't won a match in over a year huh?? Let me think about this for a second...

Centerfire... last win for me... Spring 09. I haven't been close to the 270 mark in a LONG time.

Rimfire... last win for me... NEVER!! Finally shot my best score, but that's all it was, no brag.

I promise, I am doing my very best. I have been working like crazy on the Centerfire load. It has a lot of promise, but nothing concrete just yet. I finally found some ELEY Match for the Rimfire portion of the Smiley's. I still haven't shot any of it yet, but I am hoping that it really shines!! The Federal Gold did pretty good, but not good enough obviously...

DK

Received entries and subscriptions are updated on the site - all listed will go out Monday. Will get those coming in over the weekend out later next week.

Thanks!

JB

JB, I hope you have mine, but I didn't see ours listed yet. Can you please double-check for me?? Greatly appreciated!!

DK

This next match is going to be a bit more of a challenge than usual. My wife and I were involved in a motorcycle accident. She is doing well, but I have some broken ribs on my left side, as well as my left scapula is crushed into a spider web lookin bone, and is in 2 pieces. The doctors haven't decided yet if I will need surgery or not. Either way, it hurts like a SOB to say the least!! So, this next one will be somewhat more interesting to say the least...

DK

Well, things turned out better than I thought it was going to turn out. I actually shot fairly well considering. My wife and my daughter absolutely killed the 40/50, while I was not quite as fortunate with mine. I did however, manage to get my rimfire and centerfire targets shot, but they were not as good as I had hoped. Shoulder is doing better, so the doc's don't feel it is necessary to cut it open and piece things back together.

All in all, it was a great day being outdoors and shooting with the family. If nothing else, this is a great way to bond with everyone!!

DK

My targets are on the way back to PA. They aren't great, but at least I'm entered for the door prize.

Targets going in the mail Monday. I smoked the rimfire ,found some good shells, and did soso on the centerfire.
This is my favorite match.

Sending in my best rimfire to-date didn't get a chance to do the center fire. But did get my wife to join up and she is sending in her first rf as well. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407722248.864517.jpg

This is my best rimfire + centerfire to date. My CF has been in the 250 range two times in a row. I had replaced a worked over Remington 700 trigger with a Huber 2-stage trigger and I think it has really made the difference. Before that, I had been struggling to get to 200. This time, I hit 250 with another target to go. I saved the ammo and didn't make another attempt.

On the RF, we will see if I got a wipeout. If I did, It is my third best ever.

BTW... I am never breaking my all time top score. That was pure luck. Double wipeout with a small group. As it is, when I get a small group, I usually don't hit the 40 pt smiley twice.

Can anyone tell me if the centerfire and rimfire targets are exactly the same or not? I received two sets (8 targets) all marked centerfire this go around, and I have sent two PMs to JB with no response in a little over two weeks. He may be out of town or something, so if the targets are the same I"ll just mark the rimfire targets and get them shot and sent back. Thanks guys. Bob.

Bob - they should be marked on the back with either Rimfire or Centerfire in a box.

Understood, but I received 8 targets that all say centerfire in the box on the back. I was wondering if the front side is the same or are the smileys smaller on the rimfire? I don't have the rimfire targets, so I cannot compare the size and positioning of the smileys. If the front is the same, I was going to cross out the centerfire on 4 of them and mark them rimfire. I just don't want to get DQ'd for doing so. Thanks for the response though. Bob.

They are all the same, but you might want to get with Jason. The point of having them marked differently is so that someone who does both doesn't get a sufficient score in say, 2 targets with rimfire, and then they get 6 targets for centerfire.

I have tried to contact him first but as previous post stated I have not received any response. I guess he may be out of town. I only posted the question here because I have no choice. Targets are supposed to be sent back in a couple days now, and I am just going to mark them, shoot them, and send them in. Don't worry, I will not be in any position to win anything (I am not that good) so it really does not matter. Thanks for the responses guys. Bob.

Got em out last minute this time around. Two non-zeroed rifles/scopes plus being rushed due to heat and family coming along. Essentially glad to have some excuse for my usual poor shooting abilities.

Where is the competition located? i.e. City and state.

This sounds like fun.

that's the beauty of it.
It is located wherever you are!!
Just do a little reading on Jason's first post.

Entries Mailed!!
Thanks Jason!!

DUH! Wasn't paying attention. I shall have to do this next year.

I shot my first match this summer. Didn't do too well, but that it will make it that much easier to improve for the fall shoot!

These targets always seem to catch me not shooting as good as I can shoot. Targets (other than the Smiley's) don't make me nervous. I can shoot them all day long, no big deal. However, when it comes to the Smiley's, my heart races, my breathing is choppy, I sweat more, it is completely ridiculous on my part...

When I am done, my body seems to crash. It is crazy, I know. But it does it every single time!!

DK

I think this may be the first match where I wasn't racing to the post office on the Monday of the deadline. I shot better than the last couple times and hit more Smiley's. I'll be glad to get my AR back and start shooting these targets with it.

im always afraid to shoot the 25 as a confidence shot. i always seem to hit it the first time, but 2x?

i chicken out and go for a 15 and try to keep it in the center and hit the smiley for 25.

z71rat I could not agree more... Its as bad as the speed steel pistol matches I used to shoot where they turned into "what am I going to do screw up this time"... I like the line from the movie The Last Samurai where the master was training Cruise with the sword and stated his problem to overcome was, "too many mind".

@NC... Yes, it is just like that stupid #5 shot of a 5 shot group. I had an absolutely incredible group going, at least through shot #4. I had a beautiful 4 round stack, that barely had the edge of the hole feathered... UNTIL... I shot the 5th round. Crap...

It is still my best 5 shot group of my life, but it is a far cry from what it was through the 4th round. Overall center-to-center for my 4 shot group was .047", and after the 5th shot, it was .312". I have never been close to that since...

DK

LMAO!!!! I have a great "Dog ate my homework" story... ;)

So, my daughter calls me, sounding a bit upset. "Dad, Bentley ate my prize!!" Ummm, what?? I was looking to see what sling I wanted from my certificate... AND BENTLEY ATE IT!!

By this time, I am laughing over the phone, and she insists it isn't funny!! I am sorry, but this one got me pretty good. Not too long after I got off the phone with her, she brings me what is left of the prize voucher. And get this... it is still wet!! LMAO!! So, while still kinda laughing a bit, I need to ask a favor. JB, can Cassidy please have another copy of the voucher??

This whole situation is just too dang funny to make up!!

Competition was tough as usual, with many good scores. You gotta nail everything to be near the top - this time the top 11 targets were over 200 in CF and 10 in RF - nice!

Results should be up on the website soon, but here they are below for those that can't wait<graemlin_url>

Thanks guys!

I start accepting entries for the FALL 14 match SEPT 12. Don't forget, you can pay for the the rest of the year at one time and I will send out targets at the beginning of every match! Click here for details: Contact Smack the Smiley!

Thanks Jason and the sponsors. Wow! I am happy I sent two rimfire targets in. I scored the posted one lower, but decided to send it in anyway.

I am obviously proud of winning the RF, but I am more proud of busting 250 on the CF. I don't know how people consistently shoot so well on the CF. I think I have pretty much hit my ceiling and was lucky to get what I got. Mirage is just an absolute killer with such a small target at 100 yards. At 50 with the RF, I can see crystal clear almost regardless of the circumstances.

Thanks again!

Thanks JB and all the sponsors!

I really need to get my act together, just didn't have time to focus this round.

Wow... 266!! I haven't shot that well for a long...long...LONG time!! I am absolutely lovin my Savage and these Hornady 105s!! Shoulder and ribs are gettin better too!!

DK

Here she is in all her glory... ;)
