Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

I'm in, can't wait to throw lead at some dang snowflakes! Don't see to many of them here in FL, so this one might be intimidating
smile.gif
. At least I should have some nice weather in January for shooting, I hope I don't have to put on a sweatshirt (rubbing it in).

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Oh man... got the Snow Predator hummin right now!! I resized some of my .308s into some new .243s, and I am really liking what she is doing so far!!

I went out today and printed 3 5-shot groups from some test loads, and they were from .717 down to a sweet .261!! Those were some dumped rounds with variances of .5 grains. I am going to be working up the differences in the 10ths this weekend. I am smiling again!!

JB, looks like we are going to have a full crew again!! This is going to be alot of fun this time around!! New blood, old blood, new life breathed into 2012!! LOL

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Welcome aboard to the new recruits!! You guys are in for a challenge, but it is a really fun one!! It can be frustrating, don't get me wrong, but you will learn alot of things about yourself, and your equipment to say the least!!

Enjoy the ride... you will be back for more!!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Hope I can get my rifle finished in time to shoot the flakes with it. If not it's back to the AR. Thanks to Controlled Chaos Arms donation, my rifle is nearly complete. I need to get the optics on it and a load worked out now.

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

My targets showed up today.

I've got a new rifle that is supposed to be on its way to me any day and I'm going to try and hold off on shooting the targets until I get squared away with it. Either way, I'm excited to shoot the match again!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

I am sending my rimfire back today. I usually use Eley for less than 100 and RWS R50 for 100 and up, but I got a new lot of RWS that shoots phenomenally at 100 and decided to give it a shot at 50. Whoa! I can't wait to find out my score. I will let Jason be the final arbiter of score, but I have two words for you: double wipeout.

I have been wrong on that before, in Fall of 2010, but I am staring at one hole in the middle of a tiny snowflake.

Now, if I could only do as well in centerfire. Scope / mounting issues have prevented me from sending in entries on at least 3 separate occasions. Last time I went to the range, I was having accuracy issues again, so I know exactly where to check. Good luck, everyone!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Well the fam and I got our targets. Thanks JB,

Now we need to find a calm day to go out and put our rifles to good use hitting snowflakes.

The wind was blowing about 30-35MPH today!!! Gusting up to 50. holy smokes I know.

I will wait for a nice calm day. Hopefully one will present itself for us to go shooting or else we will have to make due with crappy weather this time around.

Thanks Jason, your services are much appreciated.

Jake

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Hope the weather calms down for ya JC. I am glad to hear your family is shooting as well. I got my girlfriend, her daughter, one of my technicians and his 2 kids, my other technician, and my shooting buddy all in this time around. Gonna be some fun!!

Bring on the Snowflakes!!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Jason:

I sent out a check to you on the 10th of this month and I have not seen anything back from you.

If you have not received it, please let me know asap so I can paypal you so I can get my entries for this go-round.

Thanks!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

UGH! I was out today shooting a rimfire target, and was doing great, hitting damn near every snowflake. After I finished the target, I was waiting for a safe line to be called to go collect my masterpiece, but got bored and decided to pop off a few rounds with my ar15 at another target i had pinned up. I ruined my snowflake target with some stray rounds due to a poorly sighted in 4x power scope! I was so upset to see little tiny holes in the bottom of my otherwise decent target! Oh well, lesson learned.

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Snowflake mission accomplished, JB. I was "reminded" that I shoot better off the ruck vs. the bipod.

Only one snowflake casualty. (KIA defending his perimeter) The rest were detained and are heading your way for processing.

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Well, I got the whole crew out there, and we had a blast!! It was freaking getting cold as the sun was going down, but they were all troopers and stayed till the very end. One of my technicians dropped out of the shooting due to not feeling good, but the wife of my other technician ended up shooting in his place. Great day had by all!!

My girlfriend had only shot 1 other centerfire rifle in her life, but she did extremely well for her 1st actual competition. We all struggled with the rimfires, but it was still fun. For the centerfire, she ended up shooting a very impressive hit on the Cold Bore shot Snowflake(beat mine big time), and a sub-half 3-shot group!! I was very impressed!! I just wish I had gone over to the .243 a long time ago. Very impressive round, easy to load for, and tons of bullet options out there to choose from.

So now she wants my rifle!! LOL... She has a rather unique style of shooting. She is left eye dominant, and sets up as a left handed shooter, but she still pulls the trigger right handed... She says it is a better way for her to do it, as she has more control of the rifle. Different to say the least, but she is an excellent shot!! I was just thrilled that she went out and shot the competition with me... I couldn't have been happier!! She is just too incredibly awesome!!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Oh yes, that little diamond is worth up to theoretically 99 points. If you shoot a .75" group, you get 25 points. If you shoot a .5" group, you get 50 points. If you shoot a .25" group, you get 75 points. Smaller the group, the more points you can get!!

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Well, the wife and I had a good time shooting along with my dad!! We brought our two little girls along as well and let them roam around while we put some rounds down range. This is them walking back with me from setting up a few steel targets.

My wife decided to shoot a new CZ452 American it it turned out to be a pretty decent little target. She was shooting her target prone, from about 55 yards. Scope is a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42.

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

I just finished half of my papers, then realized they have to be postmarked by tomorrow... But, tomorrow is a postal holiday... How does that work???

Re: SMACK THE SMILEY(Snowflake) Winter11/12 ENTRY OPEN

Oh man, I forgot about tomorrow being the postal holiday. A few more holidays, and they wouldn't have to work at all!! I will be at work tomorrow though... LOL.
