Small rifle magnum primers in 6.5x47 Lapua

Any experience shooting small rifle magnum primers in your 6.5x47 Lapua? How much more velocity can you get using them?
Do they affect accuracy for the better/worse?
Will it be harder on the rifle and/or brass using them?

You may get a little more velocity, but you'll get additional pressure along with it. NO, repeat, NO free lunch there. Probably could be detrimental to accuracy with that small case. Won't damage the rifle nor brass if you start low by 3 grains or so and work back up to the velocity you get with standard primers. If you just substitute them in an already high pressure node without backing off and working back up...you may damage both brass and rifle. JMHO

We use mag primers in 6 Rat which is Grendel necked to 6m/m and get better performance. I didn't use mag primers in my x47 Lapua because I didn't think about it but I would now though I would back off and start over. Why not try it?

In 300 WM the book suggests Lr primers. We use mag primers instead and get better accuracy.

I have only used CCI 450 magnum primers with my 6.5X47 loads....I have outstanding accuracy with them, so I haven't tried anything else. You know, if it's not broke, don't fix it!

I switched from Wolf SR primers to Wolf SRM primers. I backed off .2 gr and lost 16 fps on average. Got a little less primer createring. Had the boltface bushed and no more createring. No change in accuracy.

I use the wolf SRMagnums in my 6x47L (6.5x47L necked down to 6mm) mainly to get more pressure. I never even tried the regular rifle primers. my accuracy was scary good with this primer in combination with H4350 and the Berger 108s from day one and continues to this day.

I agree with 260 Shooter, they do crater a bit, even at low pressures, but that by itself does not stop me from using them. (that and I have something like 9,300 of them left) :-D

I have been using Wolf SRM since the last presidential election and have had good results. The difference between the Wolf SR and SRM is that the SRM has a thicker cup than the SR and the thicker cup is good for the x47.

The x47 is hard on primers and you will usually get cratered primers on that round at moderate pressures and if someone who is not familiar with the round will tell you the pressure is too high. I have fired upwards of 5,000 rounds and have had no pierced primers and get 10-12 reloads out of brass so I believe my pressures are not too high.

If you use the Wolf SRM get yourself a good primer seater or use your press as they are a bitch to seat and if not seated correctly you may get 2-5 millisecond hangfires or misfires. Once I got the SRM I have shot about 10,000 of their SRM with no problems.
