I just started reloading and need to find small rifle magnum primers. The local gun store usually has CCI #450s but they "forgot" to order them so its going to be at least a month before they get them in. I checked all the websites and found not many manufacturers make Small Rifle Magnum primers (CCI + Wolf) I ordered 1K of Wolf SRM primers from Wideners cuz they were the only ones I could find in stock. I am reloading for the 6.5 Grendel in Semi-auto. Now I have a ton of CCI BR-4, CCI #400, Federal Match small rifle primers (Non-magnum), Hodgdon Varget, Benchmark, 322, 335, 4895 RL-15 on my shelf.I need some ideas to put these two powders and primers together i have to load for the 6.5 Grendel. I heard they are ok to use but Standard dev. and velocity will fall and groups will not be as well. If thats the case there is no point for me to use them. Anybody had any failures with Wolf Small rifle magnums? I found a website selling PMC small rifle magnums primers for $23 a 1K but weary on buying them. I think Ill use up the WOlf untill the local store gets the CCI #450s back in stock. Need some reloading charts /data for 6.5 grendel, anybody got some. Any ideas for loads for the 6.5 Grendel with the powders and primers I have listed above? ( also using Lapua and AA for brass)
Thanks

Re: Small Rifle Magnum Primers "In Stock"

I use Wolf's SRmag primers and they are excellent. Very consistent, price is great, and my rifles all seem to like them. Just because they're "cheapo Wolf" doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad... in this case.

Wolf primmer have a good following and a good report on long range.com
however they have increased in price since the begining of the
year and are the same price as most, powder valley has them
in stock for $25.50/1000

Re: Small Rifle Magnum Primers "In Stock"

I use BLC2 for my grendel loads. I get 100FPS more from the BLC2 than Varget. You cant physically shove enough of the stick powder in the small case to match the velocity of the ball powder. I have used wolf and Rem 7.5, and they both work fine.

Here is the reloading data I use.

Re: Small Rifle Magnum Primers "In Stock"

I heard from many people that the Federal (GM205M) Small Rifle Match Primers Are the best ones to use. Same Velocity and accuracy as the CCI #450 and Wolf Magnums. Tested. Groups averaged .270 with the Federals / .580 with CCI #450 / .400 with CCI #400 / Wolf .780.

Proven. Im going with the Federal GM205M for the 6.5 Grendel loads. Who sez primers dont make a difference. Im not the only one who did this test either. No need for the Magnums i guess unless im going out to 1K. The only thing I dont like about ball powder is that it is so damn dirty in a Semi-auto. Id rather go with stick powder. Unless shooting competition. I lose about 100fps with the stick.

I'd stick with Fed 210's

They are not interchangeable.
