I am thinking of selling my Model 19-4 in 357 mag. Blued and in good condition. What is the general going rate for these? It seems prices are all over the place.

A couple years ago I was wondering the same thing. I had a 19-3, 6", nickel finish with the original box, papers, cleaning rod, etc. I finally put it on Gunbroker and got a little over $1,000 for it.

Depending on what the collectors are looking for you might be able to get more than $350 for it.

check out comparable condition guns on gunbroker and watch what they sell for. if they dont sell, then you know the asking price is too high. within a week or two, you’ll have as good an answer as anyone can. give you.

A quick glance at your pictures, i’d say 450-500ish. But that is without having a chance to look it over and check out lock up and wear on it.

FWIW, I wanted a 19 for a while (still do, sorta). Looked at two of them pretty serious. One had pretty serious holster wear at the muzzle and end of the cylinder (but didn't look abused), and pachmayer rubber on it as opposed to the S&W grips. Was told $450 out the door.
Another one I looked at (think it was a 19-2) was nearly perfect (but no box or accessories) and the gun store was asking $600 (don't know how much they would have fudged, as the guy I always dealt with was on vacation and the gun was gone by the time he got back).
Both were blued. Bear in mind, this was also 2-3 years ago in Middle Tennessee.
Hard to tell looking at the pics, but I doubt you'd keep it long in these parts if you priced it at $500.00

A 4" 19-4 with Baughman front sight, combat hammer and trigger, and target stocks in the condition yours appears to be in, with no box or tools, will run anywhere from 650-725.

That is assuming that it is mechanically correct and is rust free in about 95%+ condition.

I own several, one very much like yours but with TT and TH.

You can always find them on Gunbroker...getting one that is honestly advertised is a bit more tricky however.

I bought mine about 3 years ago for 600$. Can't remember the dash on mine 3 or 4. View attachment 7222250

all the talk of pythons lately.....they aint got shit on an old smith and wesson. those p&r smiths are about as fine as it gets. and i include freedom arms in that. and all the 357s., except the pythons, have at least two locking points on the cylinder. the python only has one.

to the OP.....do yourself a favor and keep that gun. they dont make them like that anymore, and you’ll never get what that gun is worth in cash. keep it, shoot it, and enjoy the fuck out of it. i’d suggest using 38 specials in it for most of your firing. or downloaded handloads in 357 cases. save the fullhouse 357s for when it counts as a steady diet of them will shoot your gun loose.

I had a VERY nice 66-2 4” a few years back that got sold to fund flight training. I miss it dearly! The action on that thing was sublime, and it was accurate as all hell. I’ve had a few revolvers, but that was one that really spoke to me. I’ll have to find another sometime.

OP, if you’re going to sell, hold out for the right deal. That looks like a great shooter!

You know, I don't think I've ever regretted not selling a gun. You should just keep it. Having said that, as someone who buys old Smiths more than sells them, having a box adds a lot to the value.
