I've had lots of fun with my 98b over the last 2 years but would like to have a custom done. I was thinking a surgeon action in an AI AX chassis. The three smiths I had considered were surgeon, GA, and Chad Dixon. I'm not in a huge rush to get it, so quality and resale are my biggest factors. How would you rank these smiths and why?

Of the three you listed I would go with Surgeon for a few reasons. First, I've read that they aren't even taking orders for actions at this point, so getting an XL action to the other smiths would take a long time, unless they happen to have one in stock. Second, and I may be wrong here, but I believer I read that only Surgeon has access to the AX chassis made for the XL action. I'm not sure if the regular 700 pattern AX could be made to work with the XL action. And third, I know that Surgeon's quality is in the absolute top tier, so you wouldn't have to worry about that with any of them.

If you wanted a different action, like a Defiance, Badger, Stiller, etc. either of the other two would be top notch too.

This is just my understanding and I could be wrong, but I hope you find it helpful.

Best,
Justin

I would also add Mark from Short Action customs to that list he does great work with a reasonable turn around time. His attention to detail is second to non, and his builds can SHOOT!
