I am in the market for my first AR rifle. I went to five or six different shops on my day off to handle diffrent makes and models and now I am more confused than ever on which route to go. Every shop I walked into tried their best to cram a DPMS or Bush Master down my throat and told me the Smith ARs were crap. After hadling the Smith M&P 15T I fell in love. It has the looks I want flip up sights, free float quad rail, 5r rifling and its in my price range. To me the Smith had much better fit and finish than the DPMS,Bush Master and just felt much more solid. So what do you guys think? Any owners of the Smith ARs here to give me some insight.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

I bought an M&P Tactical and took it to Gunsite...and shot the shit out of it. Gas ARs are all the same...I have had Colts, Bushmasters, Armalight, Eagle Arms, Smith and Wesson...I've shot FNs, Colts because of work (Marine). I've not noticed ANY difference...if you like it, just buy it. Take care of it and it will serve you well...

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

I own that exact rifle, and I love it. It was also my first AR purchase, and in my opinion a very solid first AR.

I shot probably 1000 rounds through it already and it hasn't even hiccuped. I do not regret my purchase at all.

Im a S&W snob though haha I love Made in America and the Lifetime Warranty.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

ive held a grudge loathing against any and all smith and wesson products for several years now due to their habit of bending over to anti gun lawsuits and their childlocks asshattery. am i the only one who dont forget this stuff?

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

I have the Optics ready model. Only issue I had was the trigger pin walking out. S&W ate shipping both ways and fixed it Quick.
Lifetime warranty, Works fine.
I have not had any free amo droped into my LZ (living zone) so im not worried about having failures due to extended use.

I didn't forget or forgive, UNTIL I saw a California legal M&P in the PX...I forgave them at that point.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

I didn't forget, but that was when a British company owned them. They are alot better company now. Kind of like Ruger is better since Bill passed away.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

The Smith ARs are great. I sourced a Smith and Wesson M&P15Vtac for my sister, and she has shot the heck out of it in courses and 3gun for the last couple years with no problems. Sweetest factory package I've seen.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

Sold the crap out of the smith ar's at my old shop and never had a problem with them that I can remember.

We would get the occasional rifle in with no mag or no manual but no defects to the rifles.

I think for the price they are really solid rifles and wouldn't hesitate to own one. Not a fan of the "sport" but that's just me. I really like the 15t and for the money I think that it offers you a lot of value. Are the still using troy sights and rail? It's been a while since i've handled one.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

I have one and no issues whatsoever with jamming. I did have an issue where the mag well was too tight but S&W fixed quickly and for free. They don't have this issue anymore.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

You will not be dissapointed with the M&P15T. I owned one and eventually sold it to one of my best friends. (Got sucked up in the "piston" world temporarily). They are great guns. In the AR craze, I picked mine up for $$1250 used, but unfired. Do NOT pay what dealers generally charge. They are on GBroker all the time for excellent prices.

Couple of things to watch for.

Depneding on when it was manufactured, they may not accept PMags. Mine didn't, but S&W offered to take it back and open up the magwell... i just dremeled the pmags instead.

There were also some that came w/ improperly staked BCG's. I'm sure SW would take it back, or you could stake it yourself. This was a while ago, but you could run acrossed it if you're buying used.

Other than that, they are good guns. Some say that SMITH AR's are overgassed, but I never saw any issues with that. Great value w/ the Troy BUIS and troy rail. Lifetime warranty is good, but half the fun of the AR world is taking care of the small stuff yourself anyway. Best way to get to know your rifle.

Re: Smith M&P 15T???

Alright thanks for the info guys. Looks like im going to pick it up in morning. I am going to put the Leupold vxr 1-4x patrol on it. Comments and suggestions are welcome on the optic choice. The rifle will be primarly used for helping out with my hog problem. A full range report will be included when I get everything put together. I plan on trying it out to 500yd to see what the rifle is capable of.
