Smith & Wesson MP15-22 threading

Re: Smith & Wesson MP15-22 threading

I will let you know. I will be having mine done here shortly. The barrel
is .668 at the muzzle so I don't see a problem.

Re: Smith & Wesson MP15-22 threading

I thought it looked large enough diameter to have a decent shoulder on there.

.668" - .4574" (thread minor dia) = .2106 / 2 = .1053" shoulder

Not much, but should be satisfactory for a 22lr

Guess that may be the reason colt threaded theirs to M8 (~5/16")

It is threaded 1/2 x28.

The Colt is a 2 piece barrel, outer tube with a Lothar Walther rifeled liner. I should have adaptors for them in about 2 weeks(I hope)...

Not a problem. Do it all the time. Had to make a wrench to get the forearm off and barrel out. After that it is just like any other barrel.

Re: Smith & Wesson MP15-22 threading

So what about 5/8-24 threads on this barrel?

I know its probably not "recommended", since there would barely be a shoulder for the suppressor to seat against. But this isnt a high powered rifle were talking about. Id just love to not have to pay the extra $ for an adapter.

There is defintely enough meat there for the actual threads.

Re: Smith & Wesson MP15-22 threading

Yeah I ended up making a similar tool, I just welded a 3/4" Nut on the end of it so it slipped over the barrel.

Adco did an excellent job threading, Im very impressed with their work for a very cheap $65 for threading and the A2 hider. They were a little pricey on the adapter so I decided to order from:

www.tornadotechnologies.com

Their 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapter for $36 is every bit as nice as ADCO's threading I was also very impressed.

Heres the finished results.

Even with the 30cal can Im extremely impressed. At first I didnt think so shooting it, but today I got to hear it from 30 feet away to the side and I was amazed.

Full power rounds you can very clearly tell that there is almost NO muzzle blast, all you hear is the SS crack downrange.

Subsonic rounds, literally all you hear is the bolt carrier smacking the barrel face...which is somewhat loud, but from more than 100ft away you would not even know a gun was being fired.

I shot about 150rds of full power through the can outside my house today, and no one inside had any idea I was shooting.

I really wish there was a way to lock the bolt closed for single round shots.
