Gunsmithing smiths opinions on barrel options

hi all
Iam putting a 30-338lapua together that is for foxing not long range 1000yards
I am faced with options on the barrel from border, but want your thoughts please
1, s/s or moly
2, length i was thinking 26" for max velocity
3, twist rate need it to work with 110 vmax
4, number of grooves
Any thoughts ?

Im not hugely familiar with the 338 but I am familiar with Border barrels. Go for it, there stuff is brilliant, you wont be at all dissapointed. My customers have the groups to prove it.

My 2cents is, go with a longer barrel. That's alot of powder to try to burn in 26". TM

longer? 28" or 30" , does any one how long the barrel needs to be to get max velocity. Would quickload give that info?

Are you saying that you will not be shooting long range or that your range will be 1000yds?

If the 110gr pills is all your gonna shoot then I personaly think that the 338 Lapua case is way over kill. You can run the 110 V-max out of a 28" 300 win mag right up to 4000 fps with a slow twist.

The 300 "Varmiter" which is just a 300 WSM loaded to stupid pressures will run the 110gr bullet out at 4000fps. The "inventor" of that round says that its a great 1000yd ground hog gun.

the 30-338 is just an exercise in fun,
Ive got a TRG at a very very good price, needs new barrel,
Over here new range regs means everything over.308 is basically banned ffrom ranges, unlesss you take a test every time you shoot , tthen you can use slightly more powerfull rounds, the 338lap is banned from nearly all ranges
The only way to shoot the big stuff is to join the 50 club and use mil field firing ranges,, i am a member
Mainly they shoot 338/50 and a couple of 416 and 408
One of my interests is varmit shooting and my firarms licence allows me several cals for this, a 30 being one of them
Ive already got a .308 to shoot 110vmax at 3500fps which makes great fox medicine,
And the little ..233 with 40gn vmax is doing 3950 , rabbits love it.
Iin one article i read it say you can get a light barnes bullet in 30--338 to get to 4200fps

Why not ask the barrel builder? They are the experts in what their barrels will do or not do and what it will like and not like.
