Smoothening action

So I just picked up a new to me 1970s era Winchester Model 70. I like the rifle in every way, except the smoothness of action. It's quite rough and hangs up in some spots. Reminds me a little of a Remington 770. Is there anything that can be done to smoothen it? I'm not against sending it to a smith.

Grease up the bolt and start running the bolt. You can put some JB bore paste on NON-CRITICAL areas if you want to speed it up. A few hours and should smooth up.

Just like Buffy said, the next time youre just watching tv start running it. You can get alot of bolt cycles in 30 min. Should loosen it up

I lap it in just like lugs using jewlers rouge mixed with heavy oil. works like a charm.

Clean it up and start working the heck out of it. Should free it up.

I would just smooth it up rather then try smoothening.... That will probably fuck it up.

Heres a novel idea...shoot it...the more you do, the smootherer it gets.

I'll try the numerous methods. Right now just working it with a little oil. Might try some flitz later. This is a hunting rifle and unlikely to see a lot of shooting compared to my target rifles.
