Fieldcraft snail trails

Re: snail trails

I'll agree with what's been said. As good as a dogs nose is, they can be foiled for a number of hours by a number of things easily accessed by the average soldier. Or, as mentioned, use the situation to lead the tracker to you. If you have the right equipment, it can be a productive encounter for you. If you are unarmed/ill-equipped, the odds are in favor of the dog's/trackers. Against even an armed (with a brain) individual/small team, the best the trackers can do is even odds.

Gunfighter, here's one for ya.

A young man and his grandfather got to go to Cabela's. The kid had been looking forward to this ever since he heard his 'Grandpa' was coming to visit.

Sure enough, after walking and looking in the fishing department for an hour or so, the kid gets separated from Grandpa. So, just like his mother told him, he went to the nearest security guard and asked them to help him find Grandpa. The security guard asks the kid, "what's his name?" "We could page him on the PA." "Grandpa," The kid replies. Seeing that isn't going to work, he asks, "What's he like?" "Jack Daniels and big boobs...."

Re: snail trails

Big tit's yes,
Jack Daniels always had to much charcoal for me.

Old Crow and Coke.

I quit drinking in 1967 when I ask a favor from the Man above. If he'd allow me to live another 48hrs and go home alive, I'd quit the drinking, I have kept my word.

The none whoring thing came in 1969, was damn hard to give that one up.

I just hope I can be as good of a Grandfather to mine, as mine were to me.

Re: snail trails

I have absolutely nothing to contribute to all of this as I have no knowledge...had no knowledge on the matter until I started reading all the great information and experienced that was posted here.

Before I found the Hide I would have never imagined that so many and such informed individuals would come together at one place and share all their knowledge. I dont post much at all unless its on the less serious threads due to the fact that I dont know anything about anything when it comes to this discipline. Trying to learn. Gunfighter, you mind if I come by Alabama some time for some schooling.

Thank you to all of you that take time out of your day to educate those that are less educated on the matter.

Keep it commin'

Re: snail trails

Why the hell cross an open meadow when there is a tree line? watch coyotes when they stalk you as you call them in. They can amaze me how well they hide. I learn plenty from them. Got one 20 yards away staring right at me. I lost site of him 200 yards away.

Going to go out on a limb here. Depends on the scenario? If you had been fired on where would the first place be you looked (assuming it wasn't someone from this site pulling the trigger)? The trees or an open meadow? I think Hathcock made a reference to this situation, in which he fired from an open/grassy situation, 700 yds IIRC, and the enemy immediately went for the trees. I think his comment was something like, (saying to himself) "hey, I think you got something here."
