It seems that the market is flooded with so many actions, I am having a hard time figuring out which one to save for. I am currently looking at the Impact, Bighorn TL3/Origin, and ARC Nucleus.

Rifle will be a dedicated range gun, chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I want something that will run, in all conditions, and be reliable. I have considered an AI AT, but I am not sold on a chassis (I much prefer the ergonomics of a “traditional” stock).

I am curious, for those who have them, what having an interchangeable bolt head does? (besides the obvious of swapping calibers). Is that the only advantage?

The reason I ask is because I don’t think I will be swapping barrels and bolt heads, but the price difference for having an action with a changeable bolt head vs non isn’t much.

What is the general consensus? I have had a TL3 in the past, but with all the choices out there these days it’s hard to choose (especially since I do like CRF).

I got to play with an Impact and had a TL3 and I can say that I like the Impact. Another one you should take a peek at is the Lone Peak (see what i did there?). The Lone Peak and Impact actions are very similair in feel in my opinion. I love both and would be happy with either. I dont care about interchangeable bolt heads or crf so that pretty much explains why I havent built a Nucleus or another TL3. The Impact and LP actions are unbeatable imo.

I would like to have a long action that is round, no flat facets on the sides, with a bottom cut for a BDL style magazine, integral ring mounts and lug, and something other than an M16 style extractor. What are my choices?

Look at Defiance actions. They have many options to choose from and can get you a quality action for what you’re looking for. Also a FN Winchester 70, pre-64 Winchester 70 action, or a Howa 1500 would serve you also serve you well.

I can’t speak to the impact or defiance actions but the Savage threading on the ARC nucleus and TL3 make having a custom barrel a 2-3 day wait. Hawk Hill even has savage thread barrels available now.

There are more Remage type barrels available now that makes it a similar proposition with a Rem threaded action, but it still pales in comparison to the number of savage prefits out there.

I prefer the feel of my TL3 to the Nucleus but there are no flies on either one.
