Whether you feel it’s right or wrong, privately owned entities, ie. businesses, do have a right to refuse service to whoever they want for whatever reason they want. I have escorted people off premises countless times for a variety of reasons, some of them fairly petty. However, it’s always on behalf of the business owner. LEOs have no opinion in the matter regardlesss of personal feelings, it’s a right the business owner has in this country. I’ve also purchased food on behalf of people to keep the peace and prevent such conflicts.
However, I also have told business owners to pound sand when they knowingly allow a previously trespassed person to purchase something and then call the police after they accept payment from them. Shady practice for sure.
I’ve also escorted and issued trespass warnings to disruptive people out of private residences too. Property rights are a beautiful thing, and when it comes to businesses, a free capitalist market has a way of speaking on behalf of perceived wrong doing by business owners. It’s a double edge sword sometimes.
There’s always more than one way to skin a cat, I wish more people would look at all options and choose the most reasonable one...some people thrive in drama.

Too bad it’s the officer who gets to attend that lame call and be the one to deliver the news, news that really comes from the business owner. But as you say not a ton of latitude on property rights, just gotta be as professional as you can be given the lousy circumstances and know you’re going to be YouTube’s next villain for 30 minutes.

The reaction from the manager was not surprising in the least. Businesses HATE when homeless people hang around their property.
Because McDonald's is such a classy joint. They have high standards of appearance to maintain.

You start to wonder if loudmouth didn't realize that there was going to be such a reaction. Pretty sad for the homeless guy if loudmouth thought that the price of another man's dignity was a couple of cheeseburgers with fries.
Sounded as if the kid was looking for attention for his good deed.. Could have easily bought the food and taken it to the guy.
I think the kid was smart in what he did. He didn't just give the guy money or give him the food and leave. He stayed there and made sure the guy ate the food and not returned it and got the money back.
